Ok I understand you're annoyed - but... well... they paid for something they didn't get. If it was me I'd want all my money back, and wouldn't have entertained any discussion of 'compromise'..to me that suggested you weren't willing to give all his money back,, so I'd have escalated it straight away.... the only risk for the buyer was that you didn't send them the ticket, and they knew in that event they'd get their money back through Paypal.... you have their money, and you didn't give them anything in return. You have to return it.. Paypal wlll most definitely side with the purchaser.
And I agree, it should have been the friends who pulled out of the trip that tried to find replacements to recoup the money, not you.Saving for House Deposit - Done - Completed 14/11/2012

Yes, I suspect I've probably been a tad petty.
Still, not really the place to debate it.:www: Progress Report :www:

I think your friend who pulled out should lose out, you made a considerable effort to help recoup the loss. It's not your fault!

I don't know what sort of value were talking here, but can't you reclaim the loss through royal mail? I think you can claim up to a few hundred on recorded delivery?0
-
PayPal is joke. They almost always side with the buyer. Use direct bank transfer instead!0
-
The max I could claim from royal mail is £45, the buyer paid me £102.
To be fair... Even if Paypal side with me I think I'll return his money to him out of good faith anyway as it's certainly not his fault that Royal Mail lost the letter! I was just really annoyed at the way he seemed to expect me to magically resolve everything and the manner in which he filed the dispute. Once I'd posted it & sent him the tracking number there was nowt I could do afterwards. I've possibly been a bit grumpy and petulant about it and let emotion rule my head. In his position I'd want my money back as well. So in all honesty that's what should and will happen. Valuable lesson learnt!
My friends haven't actually requested their money back nor do their expect the money back either. They didn't pull out because they wanted to, it was because something bigger and more important in life came along and circumstances forced it, they tried very hard not to pull out. It's more me being silly and not wanting them to loose out either as both are very good friends who have been extremely accommodating to me in the way of hospitality etc. When you have such generous friends you like to return the generosity, I wouldn't want to be a leech.
It's all rather annoying though because it's getting in the way of me saving money towards my mortgage.:www: Progress Report :www:

Hello all,
Just wanted to add our savings adventure in to the mix.
We got married in May and I thought our next job would be to buy a house with our almost 10% deposit, but a quick look at mortgages show this might not be the smartest move. I'm a little upset we won't be buying a house in the next few months, but if we tighten our belts my spreadsheet (love a spreadsheet) shows we could save a decent deposit by December 2013!
Will stop by and let you know how we get on...0 -
Hi Everybody!
Been a VERY long time since I posted on here but it is nice to be able to share with people that understand that I have made some progress! As you can see in my signature I am over the £20,000 threshold now which feels like a really big milestone but still a long way to go! Due to the global economic crisis, eurozone etc... it seems extra hard to save as a) my job is not secure at all and b) my ISA saver makes barely any interest so all the savings are pretty much what I have put in myself. Still I must remind myself that I am really lucky and that we are all really sensible for planning ahead!0 -
total stands at £3840.84 i'm really struggling to get over the £4k mark, should manage it by monday tho.

I might just get away with putting away what I originally intended, and without using as much of the overdraft as I thought.:www: Progress Report :www:
