Am doing well here, except my car needs to have something done to it which is a bit of a pain, but hopefully (fingers crossed smiley lol) it doesn't cost too much.

Have just been sorting out my online auctions which went crazy this week. i sold so many things it has been taking a bit of time to organise, and I was trying to think about it in terms of a job, ie, the money I have earnt selling things I didn't want is more than I would have got doing a part time second job which would have involved work too. Still seems like an unwanted hassle, :o Heck I am lazy lol...

Still I am doing SOOOO well I treated myself to a DVD hire and a take away meal last night lol...both with discount vouchers :p

This month has not been too bad:

+ Made £320 from matched betting
+ I have some money left from the last pay day when I got paid a lot through overtime
+ Stuck to my grocery budget of £170
+ Stuck to my petrol budget too
+ Got a permanent discount to my broadband package as I told them they charge too much

    - Serviced and MOT'd my car this month which cost £260!
    - I'm off next week and will spend some money, but I'm going to set myself a figure and not budget too much as I've been living like a monk for about 2 months and fed up.
    - Now paying £22 a month for Sky (my freeview signal broke). Got a good deal on Sky+ though, MSE!

Share ISA down though from about £6,000 to around £3,500ish with the stock market falls.

Just need another £5,000 for costs and home furns. by next September and I'll be fine.

The shares were a bit of a blow and I knew I should of cashed them in January. On the bright side in 3-4 years they can be used to pay off some of the mortgage.:o

I did 95 hours overtime last month

Wow well done! If I remember correctly you are a nurse or doctor? (maybe I'm thinking of someone else completely!) Are you normally part time or full time and whats your speciality? Are you not knackered? Are you safe?!?

    My savings are plodding along.

Good bits: last week I sold a CD for 10.99 on amazon and a suitcase for £15 through gumtree. Hoping next week brings me some more sales. Also, should have my yearly payrise in my paypacket this month... for what its worth!

Bad bits: Had a puncture in my car tyre. Luckily got it fixed for £20.

  • I too have had a bit of car expense but still am ahead of target at the moment. don't know how that happened!

I had to have some work done on my car at the garage (£340) and whilst they did that the windscreen 'broke', and had to pay Autoglass £75 excess to have a new windscreen. Wasn't too impressed, as one of the jobs the garage did was to fix the windscreen wipers which had given up and thats how the windscreen mysteriously got cracked.
I am pleased with my savings though, as in the past three months my car has cost just under £500 in repairs alone, and still I'm ahead of target.

I agree with Riq, (re. saving is good but you have to live a little as well,) my target is to get to £13k by the end of the year and any money thats left over I intend to spend on treating myself as a reward for saving so hard!

Also I get a pay rise this month, yay!

I dont sound smug, do I?
    Current mortgage 133k
    Purchase price 171k
    Fixed deal ends sept 2019
    Current repayments 640pm
    Savings approx 60k
  • Hi

This question comes from someone who like yourselves is saving for a deposit for a house.

I originally hoped to save about 30k and put 20k down on the house with the other 10k on home improvments, furniture, kitchen appliances etc..

but talking to a homeowner the other day he said he would put all the 30k into the house and just buy things as and when i could afford them and maybe rely on the odd gift or second hand stuff here and there.

So my question to you is do you plan to put all your savings as a deposit or would you keep a little bit of money back?

All savings into a deposit definately!

The rest can come later once the hard part of getting the deposit down is done. Financially, its better to save money on mortgage interest and have to wait a bit longer for the fixtures and fittings to be right.

Or that is my take on it at least!:D

Keep a lot back! Theres all the fees and costs connected with house buying. Then you'll be wanting SOME new bits and pieces for your new gaff. And ideally around 3-6 months wages put away incase you lose your job or for an emergency.
