I'd spend it on a holiday assuming I was meeting my yearly goals.
You have to live your life too, not always worry about saving"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
LIR - £1000+ on repairs?
I'm definitely a bangernomics kind of guy - buy cheap, if repairs cost too much just scrap the car and buy a replacement. This way of doing things doesn't suit everyone; maybe you need a particular kind of car for work, or for the kids or whatever, but as far as I'm concerned I buy below £1k (or close to) with at least 10 months test left to run, and treat it as a 'disposable' car
Cemetery, if you're taking the old car off the road you can get a refund for insurance left to run (minus an admin fee usually), and if you SORN and have over a month left on the tax you'll get a refund there too. Bear in mind that it's often easier to sell a second hand car if it has tax on though, might be worth losing £50 or whatever to get a quick sale. Also has implications with regards to no 'test drives' etc.
yeah i will be stopping the insurance but only after I have sold it, lack of test drives would be a killer methinks. Just got tax for 6 months...will see how it goes.0 -
Morning all,
Just popping into say i have managed to save a whole 1% of house deposit over last few weeks since i started
Better than nothing though
My OH has been poorly recently and missed a whole week off work = 2 days ssp at £30 instead of £280 for the week so things are a bit tight at moment and hes decided to buy his stepdads old car too, ours is a K reg Polo and leaks fuel, needs replacing but means the real saving prob won't start until November now though. Now a SAHM trying to earn some spare pennies each month0 -
I have gone opposite way, I have bought my Honda Civic, cost me £5,300. I have had it over two years now and it only needed new brake pads (£40) and a new tire (£45) and that is it. If you ignore the £2,500 worth of damage I did to it when I crashed it. But anyways, trouble free motoring circa 35,000 miles in 2 years.
I got my Fiat for £6k when it was 3 years old. It's now 10.5 years old, and in that time has needed new brake pads (twice) new tires, and new shock absorbers, nothing else.
It's in for service and MOT at the moment, and needs a new exhaust, but that's still pretty low running costs over time.
Been an absolute bargain....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Well, mine will have to last now I've spent so much on it it still needs new 'bushes'???? next week (actually...now they mention it....(our roads have lots of bumps and pot holes and we have a catlle grid that i know my little car dislikes)). Will see what happens and where we are this time next year. I can cope with a small car again if it can tow a small trailer. (I know I'm guilty of overloading mine with heavy sack of feed). And I think my parents might replace the vehicle thy have for the dogs, so if they do I might buy theirs as a second car for bigger things.0

Could you not borrow your parents' car when you have heavy sacks to move about?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

When I can I do now. I don't really like the idea of being a two car houehold....seems unnecessary, but I'd rather keep a little car for nipping about in..fuel consumption, small parking spaces, also my small car has a comparitively long wheel base...good for mortorways. I'm thinking about when we leave here more than now0 -

I haven't posted on this thread since about page 2 but just thought I would give a little update. Saving is going nicely, putting away £800 into my deposit savings account each month. Could put in a little more but am wanting to purchase a new (2nd hand) motorbike early next year so am not stretching myself too hard.
Property prices are coming down nicely in my area, if I can keep the saving up I will be in a good position this time next year (if they continue to drop at current levels). There are already a few on the market which I could afford. The only drawback is that I don't think my job is very safe...
Oh, good to see you in here Riq!Saving for a deposit: £20,551 / £25,000 - 82% of the way there...0
