    Kerching! :money:

Had the talk with the parents this weekend about rent when I move back home. Turns out they're happy for me to just cover the extra costs (bills + food), which we've estimated at £150 for now.

My travel will go up, but I'll still be able to save ~£250 a month more, making my average savings about £650 a month.

Very happy about this, they're being so generous!! :D :T

We are on propertynews alerts but haven't seen anything with the WOW factor in our price range. We will hold off till we see the right place at the right price. Prices are definitely coming down still! :D

oh yeah the def are, we've decided we're gonna go straight to building now rather than buying we don't wanna get on the ladder then end up stuck but i'm still noseing and propertynews and propertypal every once in a while and they are coming down, given how much you have set aside it could be worth you looking at wilsons auctions if you don't already a big developer went under here recently so theres alot of pretty new houses on there in my area lately (not that i'm in a position to buy any i just like to keep looking)

    Hi new savers, welcome!

I haven't updated for ages cause we've been moving house :S
All done now though. Haven't saved any extra over the £220 a month SO as we've had moving costs to contend with but that still brings me up to:
    £2785 / £3500 (79.5%)

Also I've been tentatively offered the chance of some overtime at work. I need to check out the details of the offer but it could earn me as much as £300 a month extra. Put that straight into savings and my monthly SO could go up to £520!
  • Hey everyone quick update from me.

Managed to save up some more and juster under £2300 now so prety happy - almost a quarter of the way there :)

So once I start saving i'll have 3 savings accounts

    Saving 1 - deposit = £200 pcm
    Saving 2 - emergencies = £50 pcm
    Saving 3 - lux etc - £50 pcm

Should I be thinking along these lines?
Should I have some money left in my main bank account each month?

I would like to join this thread please? I have managed to read all 2917 posts in the last 3 weeks! What will I do for bedtime reading now that I have finished????

This might turn into a bit of a lenghty post !!

    Right a little about me......

I am 26 years old, living in London, as a lodger in a house! I have a good job and earn ok money! Obviously would love more, but then wouldnt we all?

I currently pay £500 a month rent! But now feel I should really get my head down to saving a deposit and moving out into my very own flat!

I do have a boyfriend, but have only been together for about 6 months, so not long enough yet to go into buying a house together! I am also quite independent and so would be buying a flat alone as I really need to start fulfilling my own life ambitions!

I have a house in my own town, which I rent out, and generally I like to keep this separate from my normal outgoings/incomings! It looks after itself pretty much! touch wood!

I have saved in the region of £4.5k already, I have finally cleared off my debts and actually have people owing me money, my sis being one of them! So I wont include this in my total until it is sitting like a chicken in my bank account!

My aim for 2012 is £12k - I thought it had a nice ring to it!

So here I am - dedicating myself to the cause of saving for a house deposit! So this means I will have to tighten my belt and live more frugelly for a while - well 12 months or more to be exact! My aim for the rest of 2011 is to try and save as much as poss and then start afresh new target come 1st Jan 2012!

I wish I had found MSE some years ago, when I had my LBM! I am sure that it would have helped me to be debt free quicker and generally much more sensible with my money before now!

But I have found a wonderful thread and can only hope I can follow you all in your amazing footsteps! x

    Hello I'm new...
We have £8500 saved so far and looking at £18000 to £20000 end of 2012 putting £800 sometimes £1000 away a month.
This allows us to still have spends and own personal savings .. Not sure what type of house we want yet as can't decide!

Another newbie renter/saver for FTB. I live with my husband in Surrey, renting at 740 a month for a 2 bed maisonnette but plan to move 'up North' to Sheffield next year. Very exciting! We're moving a large part because of the much better value housing up there and also because we like the city so much and already have friends from uni living there. The only place we could afford in Surrey would be a one-bed house, one up, one down. For the same price we could get a modest 3 bed terrace in central Sheffield. I wonder if anyone else is relocating for better value..?
