My aim for 2012 is £12k - I thought it had a nice ring to it!

So here I am - dedicating myself to the cause of saving for a house deposit! So this means I will have to tighten my belt and live more frugelly for a while - well 12 months or more to be exact! My aim for the rest of 2011 is to try and save as much as poss and then start afresh new target come 1st Jan 2012!

Hi Leala.. there is actually another thread specifically for those aiming to save 12k in 2012. This might be helpful as there are others with the same aim

Good luck with the saving :)

    Hi all,

thought i would join this thread too as I am losing motivation and have been "dipping" into my deposit savings lately!

I have almost saved my deposit and now saving for the extras such as the legal and agent fees and furniture.

I don't want to get into any further debt so want to save for as much upfront as I possibly can.

I think i have another 6 to 8 months push before I can buy so wish me luck!

There is a thread on the Savings, called saving 12k in 2012 - join in!! Think there is a large number of posters, myself included aiming to save for a house deposit!! Might help with the motivation - it certainly has for me!

My savings have hit the magic £20k mark!

I managed to keep £22 from last months tight budget also!

    Total savings now £20,637.73!!!

This leaves me having over £2k after my deposit gets paid, (Legal Fees are my parents moving gift to me!!!)

Budgeting £1k for furniture etc, and want to keep the remainder in savings!!

I also have a tin money box, and i have to say I'm loving this idea!

Any money left in my purse on payday goes into this money box, as well as any loose change (20p or above) which I accumulate by only spending paper money on nights out!
On the day i move in, I will open the box - and whatever is in it for frivilous spending on household stuff which I don't need - but want!
At the minute this includes a nice dinner set, new towels and new bedding!

Oh what a lovely idea, I have a saving tin too but didn't know what I was saving for so haven't put anything into it for about 6 months. I love this idea but will use it for nice frivolous things that I like but also need as I'll be starting from scratch so I need towels and bedding.

I'll use it for all the little annoying things you forget you need when you move too like boring dishcloths/air freshener/ bleach / soap powder / yawn yawn yawn. Those things mount up and make the first month's shop 3 times what it usually would be.

Thank you disaffected! I have signed up on there as well actually!

I havent looked at my bank account yet today... It's a daily ritual for me, but after reading so many posts on here, I feel "normal" knowing that I aint the only one obsessed with numbers and my bank / savings balance!

Monday is payday... My favourite day, so will be hopefully posting a payday update! But as my saving account standing orders go out throughout the month, eg, 10th 19th, 21st, I think I shall post towards the end of the month, when all the savings SO's have gone out!

Sorry, I'm thinking out loud again! I seem to be doing that quite often lately! lol

Slightly quiet for me this month, only £400.

Got shafted onto mostly Am shifts last month and hence didn't accrue much in unsocial enhancements.

Also and I expect I might get told off for this :p I booked a return flight to Malta, fear not though the accomdation is free! :D

Things ought to even out next month as I've mostly done night shifts this month which will provide a good boost to my basic wage.

Nothing into the deposit fund for me this month. :( Last month, I said I was hoping to meet my target for my newer-car fund, but I didn't manage to. However, I was so close this month that I decided to throw the remaining £500-ish at it, which now does complete it (£5K), although it'll continue to be trickle-charged (!) with a £50 standing order per month (no specific plans to get a newer car but running an elderly one atm so the fateful day is, realistically, only a matter of time). So from November I *should* have more to put into the deposit fund as I won't be paying any lump sums into the car fund.

Good luck to everyone with their saving and budgeting!
