I take it you do a lot of driving then.
I budget car fuel at about £15 a week, or roughly £60 a month, a full tank costs about £77-80 at current prices.
Like others, I try to drive with fuel economy in mind, and also walk to many places. Indeed, I only really use the car for commuting to and from work, or if I'm going somewhere beyond reasonable walking distance. I actually walk into town to do my shopping, as it both saves on fuel and helps to keep me fit.
Saving is all about making sacrifices and cutting back on the things that you don't strictly need, that shouldn't mean cutting things out completely, but you'd be surprised what a difference you can make if you look for cheaper ways of doing thing things you have to do.
Yep do lots of driving and not little short runs either! went to devon last mth to visit friends, western super mare and glasto in June, as a friend once said when I was looking a buying a mini the old style and also the new style beatle, "You do too much motorway driving for one of them!"
I think the shortest journey I do is to work n back 6 miles one way!
I know saving is about sacrifices etc but tbh I'd rather give up a bottle of wine than driving, I don't smoke hardly drink these days, I need one bad habit! I'd happily not buy shoes etc and go without other items just not my car, I get road rage and travel sick on busses and as for trains who wants to pay all that money for a ticket to be squashed and have no seat?
I've driven 20 miles today already!
Oh and I've put my other snowboard up for sale too, (£65 if anyone wants it) that will go towards pot when sold, Sun next week plan to do a car boot and de clutter my wardrobe and I sold a pair of trainers I don't like for £15will add to total when get money of mate on Monday
Aspiring to be financially independent.... from my parents!0 -
Vl- couldn't you get a cheaper car and thank your family member by using their contribution as just that rather than a replacement to your own money? 8k is an awful lot to blow in one go, especially as you know all too well how hard it is putting it together!
It won't be a contribution, it will be an investment (yet to work out details but I may pay rent) so it is not a hand out so I don't need to feel guilty
I can't think of anything I'd rather spend my money on than cars (after houses and maybe animals...) and my current car is worth about £500 so definitely couldn't save much by buying a new one. When I have £15k I am hoping I can afford something really special such as an XKR or RS4 :A (probably a pipe dream but I will definitely have something special of some kind!).Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -

Amen to that!Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
Haha, but you're talking about using someone else's money for your deposit now. It's one thing to keep the luxuries but quite another to go out a buy them knowing family will fill the gap!0

Plus an XKR (I assume that's Jaguar) or a RS4 (sounds like an Audi), these are prestige cars. Even if you get a used one, you'll soon find out that servicing them gets very expensive indeed.:www: Progress Report :www:
Offer accepted: £107'000

Re servicing yes I know, depends very much on my career. I would never spend my deposit money until after the mortgage is done and settled, and even then I am just as likely to add it to the deposit to take more off the owed amount anyway! This is somewhere between a realistic and pipe dream for me - my boyfriend and I are very much 'into' cars so we are well aware of the sacrifices we are willing to make for them etc!
Don't worry peeps, it's all good, I am Mrs Sensible really!!Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
Way James Bond last night, wonder if I can afford an Aston Martin when I'm a housewife?!0

Just about anyone could afford a Aston Martin. However it'd either be about 6 inches long or in very poor condition:www: Progress Report :www:

Anyone can afford anything provided they want it enough and are willing to make sacrifices (within reason!).Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0

I have a dream.... that one day (soon) I will be mortgage free and living on my husband's salary leaving me to contract on a ridiculous day rate and use the money purely for shoes, Laura Ashley furniture and a jazzy car perhaps!0
