  • Well, where is the NSD challenge??

Saving for a deposit is hard work lol, just had an argument with someone who thinks I am taking it too far and they really %$*%$***&ed me off.

It was my son's dad, actually, we are seperated  , and he thinks I am being too tight, but the thing is, my son still gets whatever his little heart desires to some extent, he plays sports (fees, equipment etc), goes on all school trips away, has sausages etc on fundraising days, has a new school uniform, gets the heater on in his room and a hottie (I am saving power so I go without in mine!), gets all the nice snacks, pocket money, etc

He is complaining that I cut my son's hair, and make him eat HM bread, etc...

Really annoying...I am saving for a deposit so we can get our own place and have pets etc...much more security in the long run...

    Okay, sorry, rant over :o

PS: Had to edit to add: He doesn't pay for anything so has the absolute cheek to complain at all...
"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without!!"

Well, he could take your son to the barber with him and solve his concern over that.

You MAKE your sone eat home made bread? His father considers home cooked food as bad?

    Nuts.

I have no good news to report. My wellie sprung a leak and I replaced them with cheaper ones, but then had a mental lapse in Boots and bought....lots :o then got a bill for books I forgot I'd ordered and all in all I'm feeling like I'm binge sending for all the good saving I did earlier this year. at myself.

    OK so here goes....

Just been looking on the internet at lots of different mortgage calculating tools. There is a huge variation in the amount of money I could borrow!

I dont plan to buy yet, not til about 2011/12, and I know that in 2012 I will be earning £28K, (barring me being hit by a bus.) In 2012 I should have a deposit of approx £35k (at least) saved up. I have NO debt. Not a penny. Yay!

My two big problems - 1.) currently single so unless I meet Mr Right soon I'll be buying on my own, 2.) I want to buy in Kent.

The sorts of properties Im currently interested in are £125k - £160K.

Please someone, cheer me up and tell me that I will be able to buy a house! I know this contrary to me earlier house price post but Im just beginning to consider renting long term instead of buying, as I do not wish to spend my time worrying about house prices.

Countrygirl, you are well placed, accruing a deposit, no debt and seemingly good work/life balance.

Mr Right may well come along nothing to say he won't, but just keep saving. I've seen some lovely places in Kent (and East Sussex) well below the average for SE so thats good news too!

IMHO times are so very unsettled and what will be like next year is anyone's guess. All we can do is the best we can:o ;)

Have around 10k saved at the moment, looking to save another 45k over the next 4 years, will be buying at the end of 2012, also have 2 endownments that mature in December 2012 which are on target with no problems to bring in another 43k.

So pushing to get as close to the magic 100k by this time. If property stayed flat at the current prices I should be able to get a nice 3 bed detached home in a nice semi rural area within a mile of where I am currently staying with a 40k mortgage.

However if the market continues to crumble (say 25%) then stagnates for a couple of years, I will be able to get a nice 3 bed detached and be mortgage free.:D, happy days, however we shall see how the market goes, I'm not counting my chickens yet.

  • Hi all :D, this page should be stickied !!!. I am a 34 year old FTB and have been saving a long time for a deposit while praying for the correction in house prices which is happening at last. I currently have a 40k deposit to put down so am in a pretty good position, just waiting now for the right time to buy. I am looking at late 2009 depending on whats happening at the time.

  • Hello,

We have some friends who live on the coast where my partner comes from and their house is amazing - detached, high walled garden and columns outside the front door. However, the best part is that it is less than 3 minutes walk and you're actually standing on the beach.

Last week they told my other half that they intend to sell in 2 - 3 years time and we have first choice on the house. Yippee!!! Now we are in the position of trying to save up a massive deposit in two years to put down as a deposit, in addition to whatever our current house sells for which we are currently overpaying £500 a month on. Other half is money savvy and has another house of his own which he rents out plus money already invested so I'm just concentrating on what I can save as obviously I need to make some sort of effort to come up with a substantial amount as well. So, here I am joining this thread.

Everytime I go into work to do an extra shift I keep thinking about sitting in the garden late at night with a glass of wine and hearing the sea!!

Good Luck to everyone else who are saving as well!!

You'll do it!! I live in Kent and bought in that house price brackett. After 2 years when we remortgaged it had gone up by £27, 000 in value but we had spent well over £15, 000 on refurbishing it and aren't even finished yet!!

  • Hi,

I thought i would join in this thread. I've saved just short of 20k in about 3 years. I always had a bit of money saved since i started full-time work 9 years ago.

My target is 30k, hopefully 20k to put down on a house or flat and the remaining 10k for home improvements or just if i run short of money.

I plan to buy in 2010 if unless i'm forced into buying sooner with house prices maybe going up near 2010.

The sort of property price i'm looking at is 80k, and then i would only need a 60k mortgage.

Good luck to everyone else with the saving.
