  • Yes!!! We have reached 50% (and over!!). £53k hit today. Been really looking forward to this point as it is downhill from now. DH was working out some money that he should have coming in at the end of the month and he thinks it will be around £4k, we have both checked the figures and still come to the same amount, so it is quite hopeful that the person paying him will agree! Keeping everything crossed! :D

    Excellent work, well done! :j

I've been a bit quiet as I was away on my hols at the start of the month. While I was away my standing orders kept doing their thing and I'm pleased to say I've now saved more than my initial 2008 target and it's only September :D My next big milestone will be hitting 50% of my long term target like you (though it'll be 50% of a MUCH smaller amount!!!!) :)

I'm pleased to see that a 3 bed terraced house in an ideal location has just come onto the market at an asking price of £87.5k. Staggering really, the asking prices in that street 6 months ago was nearer 115k. Things are looking good, but I'm gonna hold off a while longer and keep saving my deposit :)

I might be unable to resist a viewing though... :rotfl:
  • Great reading through this lot........really spurs me on - thanks!
Getting very excited now, working my backside off to reach my goal and hope to add up to 5% every month to the £65,000 target. Hoping to get there in 12 months at very best (18 months if i was being overly realistic) but things are moving nicely.
  • My two big problems - 1.) currently single so unless I meet Mr Right soon I'll be buying on my own, 2.) I want to buy in Kent.

The sorts of properties Im currently interested in are £125k - £160K.

Please someone, cheer me up and tell me that I will be able to buy a house! I know this contrary to me earlier house price post but Im just beginning to consider renting long term instead of buying, as I do not wish to spend my time worrying about house prices.

Hi, yes, you can do it! Even though i have been in a relationship for over 4 years i still am going ahead with buying on my own - its just the way i want to do it. It is difficult but if you want a house enough it will all be worth it!

I am a FTB but hoping to get a nice sum together and try to meet with the bottom of the crash. So close to 50% now........
  • What a great thread! i'd love to join you all. There are some great stories here.

The OH and I have been saving for 7 years now and we started £6K in debt each and no jobs! We've now got over 80K for our deposit acheived by hard work and frugal living! The OH started by getting a half decent job and has had promotions through hardwork. I worked for a PCT and they sponsored me to do my nurse training and I've now been working as a nurse for 2 years. I've just started doing extra shifts to help the deposit grow. It just shows you that a good work ethic and hard work can pay off!!

I sell old CDs(and we've hundreds of the things)/books on amazon and have made over £500 this year. I stooze, do all the loophole martins posts, grow my own food (well, trying!), cook from scratch and load more!

Our aim is a 100K deposit. We'd like to do it by the end of the year but I'm not sure we can, as its coming round a bit quick! Still, you never know. We hope to buy 2009/10... depending on prices of course. Oh and we'd like to start a family soon.. so that will have an effect on the savings.

Had an expensive month tho and bought a magimix and outwell vermont tent (both in the sales!) and a PC for my dads 60th. Gonna try not to buy anything big til xmas now!

    Good luck everyone!

Wow! That's amazing! :T I feel thoroughly inspired - though I'm thinking the next addition to our deposit fund is probably not going to come until the £60 tax rebate at the end of the month...

  • Well, I have added a bit more to the total, think I am doing okay, except does anyone else find people just flat out do not understand what they are trying to do lol...

I tend to keep my savings a secret from all but my family as other people think it is weird. Bit annoying because on payday I am excited that I get to transfer a bit more to the pile, and people think it is because I am desperate for the money lol if only they knew ;)

  • Like you Zoe, I try to keep my savings as much of a secret as I can. I want to get myself a house as my 30th birthday present! I currently have £38K and seriously intent to hit £45K for the end of the year. I have been saving for 3yrs.

I am 27yrs and 9months (to the date!). So I have another 2yrs to go and just intend to keep stashing as much away as I can. I am a single parent so it is only me putting into the pot but it would be great to meet someone to go halves with but there is a part of me that just really really want to achieve this on my own.

I shall be buying in South East London or Kent Borders so shall need as much as I can amass and I am praying that the market will keep falling in all our favour!

I always keep the amount i've saved private away from work colleagues, friends and family. They know i am saving for a house but they just don't know how much i've got.
