Could anyone offer advice on currency for Iceland. We are going on the 7th Feb for 3 nights. Should we buy the currency now or wait a bit?

Take your Euros, you might be able to negotiate a better deal when you are there & so that you are not destitute if you arrive in a power cut or a volcanic explosion - most probably you will bring them back again.

Otherwise stick your Nationwide debit card in the hole in the wall machine, when you arrive.

When you get back let us all know how it was for you in the first country to be run by the IMF.
(I well remember going to see a local council official in the 1970's, who was making plans to compulsorily purchase the access to my home and saying:
"That is all very interesting. How do you feel having done all this work when the IMF won't let you build anything".
"Bluster bluster ........this will be built in 18 months time"
The truth of the matter was that nothing happened for 20 YEARS.
Why is it that government "servants" get so out of touch with reality?).

From what I've been told you can't buy Icelandic currency in the UK. You will have to get the currency in Iceland and make sure you don't bring any back with you as you won't be able to change it.

  • GBP/USD is flying this morning, right up to 1.4175

on the back of a number of things, such as an encouarging rise in the Nikkei overnight, a few bits of bad news out of the US, promising news from Barclays, and an encouraging article from last nights Evening Standard by Anthony Hilton (very respected finance journalist)

    onwards and upwards chaps...

  • GBP is gaining against EUR, up to 1.0885

been some shocking announcements this morning regarding German unemployment and Spanish housing, and more threats to slash EUR base rate.

which all backs up my theory, that everyone should stop picking in UK, and have al look at the state of their own countries !!
