Euro (€) Currency Thread

Our neighbours have just got back from Palma. Apparently they found a better exchange rate out there... not sure whether it's better than using a nationwide debit card to withdraw euros from an ATM (see first post of thread for current VISA rate).
(I've merged the duplicate posts into this thread, in case things look repetitive)
Unlikely to be better than the Nationwide card - the exchange outfit would be making a loss on the deal if that were the case, and there's really no reason why they should want to do that. But could well (if you shop around, it won't be everywhere) be better than buying €€ here if they are operating on smaller margins.0 -
I am on holidays in Spain now and the exchange rate for euro's is less than i had in the UK.The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0

Hi all, having returned from Kos last year, we had left over about 400 euros in travellers cheques, now we were told when we bought them that they did not have any 'use by' date, in other words they never ran out of date and we could simply keep them for whenever we next went into Europe, however I have now been told by someone that this is not actually the case and that they do have a use by date, can anyone shed any light on this for me please?
Thanks.

to the best of my knowledge (i haven't bought TQ's for a couple of years) there's no expiry date ...quick call to the issuer or look at their website if still unsure0

Hi.
I am confused. I am off to Italy in a few weeks, and don't know what travellers cheques to take. What are the pro's and cons of each?
I am taking around £2,000.00, some in cash, but the rest in cheques.
Thanks.

you'd be far better off reading the advice contained on the site and the sticky on this forum0

Usually I buy my Euros at our local Post Office counter but this week I bought some in the ICE Bureau De Change at St Pancras railway station in London. What a rip-off! Their exchange rate was only 1.1373 to the pound, PLUS a Service Charge of £3, PLUS a Counter Charge of £2.68 for paying with my debit card (which was not mentioned at the time)! This meant that I was effectively charged around £15 more than I would have paid for 200 Euros at the Post Office.
