We cant really tell you what a good rate would be dinah as that would be investment advice. Currency trading is how some people earn a living judging that good rate all day
For euro to pound you want the number monkfish quotes to be as low as possible. (pound to euro)
May general opinion would be prospects for euro vs pound (this is how its quoted traditionally, this thread is the exception) are increasing so in conclusion that would mean ask your friend to delay but I dont know the future so its anyones guess reallyChannelman wrote: »Thanks sabreTT, I've overpaid the account now and it is in credit.
Can I assume that I can now continue using the card normally without
any further "cash withdrawal" interest?
I think so, if its zero how could it be justified but who knows what sneaky rules they have.
They'll be interest come due of course, extra caution to pay off that as well might be best if you otherwise are using zero percent to purchase or transfer0 -
Getting great rates outside of london . I noticed on the money maximiser all the best rates are based in london . Tesco and the post office seem to be the best outside of the capital . I poped into my local bureau de change and mention this and as i travel alot they offered me a rate that beats the post office etc. Cant beat london branches but i think no1 can . If you want to save a few quid try your own local branches and see what they say , or if no luck just call up the one i use as they offer the postal service all insured etc. it is E4C 01308420542
Let me know if you have any luck !!0 -
wouldn't it be easier if we just adopted the euro !!!!:beer:0

Bit of a different question, but is there any way to get a better exchange rate than a bank transfer for sending money from Europe (Ireland) to the UK? My FIL2B is sending us e25,000 as a wedding present, which is going to be our house deposit, but I don't really know how to get it sent over, or what constitutes a 'good' rate (he's asked us to call him one day there is a 'good' rate and he'll send it via bank transfer that day).
Your FIL2B would first need to register online, but it is fairly straightforward and painless.....and then use either CaxtonFX Fastpay or HiFX's equivalent (www.caxtonfx.com) or (www.hifx.co.uk) - usually much better rates than the high street/bank, especially for larger sums of money.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -

So much for shopping around for a great rate using MSE!!! I didn't see anything warning me about this possibility and actually spent time reading through all of Tesco's T&Cs about getting currency through them. I chose to use my debit card to avoid the stated credit card charges - should have done that after all... In fact it probably has worked out as the most expensive thing I could have done. I'm disgusted. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:mad:

Divide one by the number given here to compare it with monkfish's quotes
Also I agree with the conclusion stated on the chart that a breakout is likely soon ( a rapid movement in one direction) Personally I favour the euros chances more0 -
Ah happy new millennium days of 60+ pence !
What do the other two graphs along the bottom of the picture tell us?0 -
They are more theoretical, its the RSI and MACD. I think he is trying to point out a bullish divergence.
[The rate itself hasnt dropped back that much but the indicator is quite a bit lower which is divergence and could indicate the move is not boiling over, the price is solid for a further rise?
Its all subject to speculation]
The formation back in Apr 1995 seems similar and could be compared together with those indicators maybe.
I prefer simple conclusions personally, rsi is for traders, etc
