I have a Nationwide current account and debit card. Is it better to use the card or take cash in terms of exchange rate etc?

I have always found the NW Debit Card rate to be at least a few points better than local bureaux de change/banks' cash exchange rates whenever I have used it abroad.

Back over 1.15 now. Doing very well against the dollar too, but that's a different story...

Absolutely, it seems to have really rallied against the collar in recent weeks, pity it can't do the same to the Euro but any move up is a good step in the right direction.

  • You're forgetting that it's to do with confidence as well as the actual strength of the currency. The UK could still end up having to seek a bail out from the IMF combined with having decided to print money - and for this reason, the Euro is a much safer bet.

You also forget that the Euro is a strong reserve currency, second only to the dollar. I think it's very unlikely that it'll be getting a 'beating' anytime soon.

talk of ECB undertaking some major quantitative easing very soon....
