Seller won't refund unpaid postage

I had to go to the PO to pick up some recorded delivery post including one for items bought from Ebay with no stamps attached so I had to pay £2.10. I informed the seller but they say it's not their fault as they sent it recorded and it had stamps on then, they suggest I should try to get a refund from the PO.
It's not worth the hassle but I'm annoyed that they can't just refund me, I could have refused to pay it and it would have been returned.
Any suggestions?
TIA

sellers could just put a recorded label on an item and put it in the post box, but wouldn't have a stamped recorded form as proof of posting in the event of loss
however, the seller may have put stamps on it and they may have come off?0 -
If you ask for the tracking number, they should have a record of this if it really was sent recorded delivery... then you'll be able to work out if it had any postage on it by the info brought up on rm's website
**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

I've had this recently - I drop my parcels off at the pO and he franks them at his leiasure and pops them in his sack. IN the last few weeks hes been cutting corners and instead of printing the stamp thing hes stuck stamps on some of them. Cos they are bags these sometimes just fall off and the customer ends up witha collect and pay ..... grr
I have asked the buyer to send me the empty packet back (which should have all the markings on about unpaid postage) and my PO has told me they will refund me (as they always do me a proof of postage)
I always refund the postage to the buyer as its not there fault.Sealed pot challenge 822

sorry thats just nonsense.
if the package had an RD label they would have signed for the item whilst paying for the item
the tracking number proves delivery which the op already knows.track and trace has nothnig to do with revenue protection or postage paid0 -

How does it work that a parcel can be sent as recorded delivery yet not have any payment attached?.0 -
a lot of people confuse SD & RD
SD is ully tracked thus has to be sent via a post offfice
RD is only tracked at the delivery point so can be posted in a post box
this is why you can get rolls of RD labels for home/business use0 -
The seller has proof they posted the letter RD so I don't doubt it had postage then, but it was lost by the time it got to my PO. I don't see why it's my problem though, it's up to the sender to sort it out surely?0
