Soappie it will be lovely, my mums last words to me when i left home was ""when you gone thats it no coming back'' a few weeks later i was down visiting and my room was turned into a games room with pool table and dart board. :rotfl:

I'm sorry to hear that Vanilla - you must have felt quite hurt. Though I must 'fess up - when DD did leave, I immediately gave the room a makeover - redecorate etc (hadn't done it for nigh on 10 years and it was GROSS! - but, my children's rooms are THEIR domain and I don't interfere or dust or hoover).

Now it's the 'front room' (and for  ORF ops  it's where the all seeing eye of Buster lives) which is more of a sitting room - there's a big TV in there which DS and DiL often watch. BUT, the settee is a fold out futon so guests (and returning daughters!) can sleep too.

yey - planned 2 lessons for next week, and marked a set of y8 tests, so the day is not too wasted.

Think i might just get engrossed in some more marking then i have a good excuse not to sit making polite conversation.

wish i was booking a holiday. We are doing devon in the summer, but only because DH;s friend is getting married and i am not driving all that way with 2 small children if we aren't stopping.

best get some books out the car then and tackle the next pile.

    Hi everyone!!

Mudbath, Usborne do a book called "What's happening to me?", well they do two I think - one aimed at girls, one aimed at boys. They are written for ages 8+. There are quite a few on ebay at the moment if you just do a search for the title! Hope this helps! These are really good books as well.

This is my first ever post, having been lurking for ages but got a bit scared to post after seeing some of the responses newbies have got on other boards and threads!!!!!

Love the flylady thread and dream that maybe one day I may actually achieve everything on the list for a day! Not much flying going on at the moment because I have soooooo much college work - my own fault for falling behind by spending too much time reading the OS thread!!!!

can anyone recommend a book for my daughter who will be 9 in a few weeks. she's been asking me what tampons are for and a few other questions and i want to make sure i say the right things and also have a book that she can just dip in whenever she wants to. any ideas please xx

I bought my daughter a book called "What's Happening to me?" by Usborne. There's one for girls and one for boys. My daughter is 11 and has never actually asked me any questions like that, but I thought it would be good for her to read. It explains what body changes you can expect - hair growing in unexpected places, BO, spots, as well as periods etc. My daughter keeps hers under her pillow as a permanent reference book, and she knows she can ask me anything she wants to. They have just had "growing up" at high school, and it sounds a bit near the knuckle for my liking really. Do children of that age need to know the "O" thing (ifykwim!)

Mudbath, sorry no book to recommend. I think if you can answer her questions as honestly as possibly you wont go far wrong. So far this week DD (14) and I have discussed STIs and condoms. If you keep the lines of communications open and arent frightened or embarassed to answer her, you'll be fine. Although we're now venturing into wee chats about getting drunk. Sex, I have no problem in talking about, but alcohol, argh!!! I just dont know if I'm saying the right thing.
