Last weekend I bought 4 x 75 litre bags at Wickes for £10. Cheapest I've seen and looks OK to me
If you don't need that much maybe you could share the cost with a friend, neighbour?.·:*¨:starmod: ¨*:·. Rubiales.·:*¨ :starmod: ¨*:·.

I noticed today that ASDA had 120ltr for £4.
Way too heavy for me to carry, so am send OH!0 -
I know this will sound grumpy, but isn't it a false economy just to buy the cheapest, simply because that's what it is?
Not all composts are equal and the cost in failed plants and just general frustration if things go wrong could completely overshadow the joy of saving a few pence a bag.
Just a thought.0 -

Also it depends what plants you plan to grow in the compost. If you are growing plants that need a lot of feeding like tomatoes then obviously it is put if you are putting herbs in it that need poor soils then it isn't.
I personally buy a mixture of cheap and expensive compost depending what I'm planting for that reason.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I have just picked up next week's Lidl flyer, from Thursday 3rd July 40 litres of multi purpose compost is down from 1.99 to 1.49, and 30L of peat free multi purpose is same, down to 1.49
I did see a post not liking the Lidl compost, full of twigs they said, but I have found it OK, and at this price a any twigs can be discarded :rotfl:Numerus non sum0 -
Hi there Farway ,, I think that is quite dear for compost as the last one I bought was £1.99 for 75 litres and that wasn't in a sale but as cant remember where it was .
You can still buy 4 bags for £10in most places which are usually 80 litres each so maybe it works out cheaper.
I'm sorry if there are a few mistakes in thisI have no spectacles onmortgage free as of 06/02/2008#

Hi Kaat lady, wasn't aware of that, I always get the Lidl one as it is near me, and I only use a couple of bags a year and nearest garden centre or DIY shed is a good distance away
No doubt your advice will be most usefulNumerus non sum0 -
Hi Farway
I always look out for prices as we have had at least 12 bags of compost this year as well as the homemade stuff
But when you work it out 40litres from Lidl for £1.49 is just as good ,in fact its about half the price of buying the big so good one Farwaymortgage free as of 06/02/2008#
