Our local recycling centre give it away. You take a bag and can take as much as you like.0

Both of my neighbouring councils are giving compost away next weekend (25th and 16th) Have a look at your local councils website to see if this is hapening near you.0

Watch how they define compost, if is recycled waste for use as soil enhancer or weed suppression its ok. If you want a potting compost then it will not do as they do not add nutrients. With compost you nearly always get what you pay for, cheap is often not as good as a more expensive one regarding quality of nutrients etc.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I was disappointed with the results I got last year using a DIY stores own brand compost. I'll be sticking to something like Levingtons, Arthur Bowers or something similar.0

It can leach out nutrients if stored incorrectly, as some do by leaving them in the yard over winter & soaked with rain, always pick the bags with new shiny print & not the grubby faded ones
