i looked at foam mattress, and i think some of the comments about being warm are possibly valid. I opted in the end for a feather mattress topper - which is basically like a duvet which sits on top of your mattress which you then put your sheets on to. this is an alternative to the foam mattress toppers.
I used to suffer from a really bad back, but after using this life has been much better

There are two main reasons why people sometimes find memory foam too hot:1) When the memory foam is on top of reflex foam it doesn't allow air to circulate within the mattress to dissapate the heat from the memory foam. Some manufacturers use gimmicks like holes running through the width of the mattress, but these will just get squashed flat when in use.2) Some manufacturers use layers of memory foam that are far too deep. They do this as a sales gimmick and tell people 'the more memory foam the better'. This is untrue, the optimum depth of memory foam is 2" to 2.5". Les than that and it wouldn't be enough to contour to your body, and more than that and you would sink too far into the memory foam which can make you too hot.So the best option to prevent over heating is to buy a mattress with memory foam on top of springs so that air can circulate, and to make sure the memory foam is the right depth.
Oh and by the way tawnytwinkle, please don't use an electric blanket with memory foam. You will stop the memory foam working properly, and could also ruin the memory foam.0 -
I suffer from arthritis and need a mattress that is kind to my joints.Until the last couple of weeks I was sleeping on a latex mattress with a 3"[7cm] memory foam topper.I have now bought a memory foam mattress 4"[10cm] good density memory foam with 6"[15cm] less density foam. The new mattress is firmer but because the whole of my body is supported by the mattress I am very comfortable on it.I have bought it from intellifoam.co.uk.The delivery was free and there is a trial period. Also the mattress is guaranteed for a no quibble 10 years and a further 5 years on inspection.I have no connection with the firm other than being a very satisfied customer.if i had known then what i know now0
