Give me a good pocket sprung mattress any day to these. Each to their own but I thought they were dreadful. Speaking to friends about them (wish I'd done that before buying) many of them hated them too & relegated them to the spare bedroom. An expensive mistake!
Absolutely right. The combination of pocket sprung and either memory foam or latex is the best scenario but of course it can be far more expensive. We bought a pocket sprung/latex bed just before Christmas and I almost stayed in bed until the new year. :rolleyes:0 -
I take it both of you above are male?
It's the females that tend to relegate them to the spare rooms - MANY of my friends hate them with a vengeance. More hate them than like them. Of course we're all of a certain age. If we weren't we might like them But I also hated the feeling of being slightly smothered in them.
It was OK for the 1st month (novelty value?) but after that - YUCK. Nearly paid a 4 figure sum for ours- would have been WELL into 4 figures if I wasn't such an ardent MSE & Hotdeals reader.0 -

Is that because of the staying in bed statement?:rotfl:

But I'm agreeing with you regarding the pocket sprung bit, and with a 2" layer of latex it still moulds to your body just a little without feeling "smothered" or hot.0 -
i agree to try before you buy with these - some people love them some people hate them - i love mine but know many people that hate them (i probably know more people that hate them than like them).0

Mrs Fishcake definitely prefers it as well. I guess if anything, this thread goes to show the importance of try before you buy! Some love it, some hate it.
I never thought I'd be comparing household items to MarmiteTeam Fishcake - Silly, strange, surreal and stupid original comedy0 -

& I wonder how many households have memory foam bestowed guest bedrooms with morning eu de pong resembling a community gym changing room?0 -

Latex is cooler than memory foam, but it is also very expensive, and it doesn't give quite the same level of support as memory foam. Some luxury mattresses have a layer of latex foam under the memory foam, this is the best combination.0 -
After much research on here and on the web in general - including the Which report which was very useful - we bought ours from memory-mattress.co.uk last September.
We were very wary - mainly about getting too hot as I couldn't bear that. However it came with a free Coolmax cover, and I can honestly say that it has been fine.
Definitely make sure you have a free trial period of at least a couple of weeks, as it's down to personal preference and if you don't get on with it, you want to be able to send it back!
memory-mattress sell good branded memory foam mattresses (Flexcell) at a much cheaper price than you can usually get them.
Best thing I ever bought, since buying it I have had much less back/neck pain and have been far more comfortable in bed, can't be just a coincidence.0 -

The overheating problem tends to happen for two main reasons:1) The memory foam layer is too deep causing you to sink into the mattress. It is supposed to mould to the contours of your body rather than engulf you which obviously makes you too hot. Memory foam should be between 2" and 2.5" deep.
2) Mattresses that are constructed from memory foam on top of reflex foam don't allow air to circulate under the memory foam to dissapate the heat.0 -
Has anyone come across a company doing king sizes in 190cm length? We've got a bed from the continent and that's how long the mattress is supposed to be - the current one is too long by about 4".0
