There's a lovely aroma coming from my kitchen as I type!!;) In last year's Xmas SW mag there was a recipe for Special Beetroot Soup and I have finally got round to making it. There is also one in this year's (very similar but I liked the sound of the other). Free on both Original and Green. Serves 6. It looks quite thick and delicious .... will let you know later!!;)

1 lb uncooked Beetroot, 2 onions, 1 large carrot, Bay leaf, 2.5 pints chicken bovril stock and 2 oz shredded red cabbage, 1 tsp sweetener.

Peel, chop and put all veg in large ovenproof dish. Add stock & Bay leaf. Cover and put in oven at 150C for approx 3 hrs. Remove bay leaf and blend in food processor until almost smooth. Ladle into warm dishes and garnish with swirl of low fat fromage frais and a few snipped chives.

Hi all, had a reasonable day so far. OH was off this morning, so we grabbed the chance to go out for breakfast while the children are in school. Had a 'traditional breakfast', but only ate the SW (red) friendly bits, and it wasn't at all greasy, so not too bad, and we had a fun time chatting.

Just about to have a mug shot, I was fairly full until now. Then off to SW later.

Marion, can you tell us how to make the SW hash browns, reading about them is making my mouth water, sounds too good to be true!
    Anytime;)

I just use left over jacket potato chopped up with some chopped up onion and fry in pan with fry light. They arn't anything like the ones at Macadee's but they are quick and easy and go great with eggs. You can also use mashed with onion. I guess it is sort of like bubble and squeak without the squeak:rotfl::D

What a fab idea, Sainsbury's instant mash (free on green) is yummy and would work too. I'm struggling with eating fried eggs without bread, so these would be a good alternative, thanks Marion!

  • hello all

A plea for help please! I am off to a wedding on friday, and have no control over what I eat on the day for lunch, dinner and how much alcohol I consume (erm.... ok well I do have control over that but its the event of the year and I'd rather eat ryvita all Xmas day than skimp on wine on Friday!!:rotfl: ) Anyhooo... I know I should know this but I am after low syn late-night and journey before/after munchies and snacks, preferably ones that help reduce hangovers!! :D bearing in mind I have a 3 hour journey there and back, a MONSTER appetite when I am drunk, and no access to fridge or cooking facilities apart from a kettle and flask. I'm thinking mug shots, but what else??

The alka seltzer is already packed ;)
