just looked up the syn value for oreo biscuits. it says

Kraft Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Biscuits, 4 pack each

    red.gif Original 2½ Syns green.gif Green 2½ Syns

does that mean 2.5 syns per 4 biscuits?

No, it's 2.5 syns for each biscuit in the pack (so for the full pack it's 10 syns)

i think it's because chewing sends signals to your brain that make you full up. if you juice it, blend it, mash it or puree it then you don't have to chew it so you eat more before you are full. i don't get why cooking it changes the syn value though. i suppose with some things it makes it softer so you chew it less?

Chopping, mushing or juicing the fruit breaks down the fibre and therefore is easier to digest, so uses less calories to do so.

Cooking fruit alters the make-up of the sugar content which is why you have to Syn fruit if its cooked.

shazrobo - the syns for your McChicken sandwich is 19

tobys_mummy - 4 nuggets are 5 syns on red/8½ on green : small hamburger is 12½ syns : fish fingers 5½ syns on red/8 on green.

otterspam - it's too easy to eat far too much fruit without the benefit of the peel (in the case of apples) which is full of fibre, and the action of chewing slows the whole process down and gives you time to realise you're full. (Hope you slept well last night :rotfl: )

The brain takes up to 20 minutes to send a signal to the stomach that you have eaten enough - if you juice your fruit it takes a matter of seconds to ingest loads of calories (I know we don't normally think of calories in SW) and you don't feel any of the benefits from the much slower chewing that you have to do to eat the fruit in it's natural state.

This also shows that if you eat more slowly, you give yourself time to feel full. Have you ever noticed how, in a restaurant, you can often get to the desert menu and think "actually I'm full and don't really need this"? Usually, it's because you've been forced to wait between courses and you're brain gets a chance to carch up. I've not explained it very well, but I hope you get what I mean.

I've found that when I start thinking I'm hungry and it's really not time for a meal, I have a drink and within 20 minutes or so, all feelings of hunger have passed.

I got a different answer for that from online??

McDonald's Main Menu, French Fries 1 large

    red.gif Original 23½ Syns green.gif Green 16½ Syns

Thanks for that -always use the online answer as it is more up to date. I was using the 2007 directory (my 2008 one is in group). It never occured to me that boltonangel may have been having a red day, so I never thought of giving that value (though in my directory it's 22½).
