Global Shares Ltd?

I have received a brochure from the above organisation (based in Old Broad Street, London) suggesting that a realistic income can be gained through their system. There is no indication of the level of investment required to earn the quoted £20k pa.
Few questions :-
  1. Has anyone heard of them before?
  2. Is anyone using their system?
  3. What is the initial cost?
  4. Does it work?
Their website does not give many clues and the only way to get further info is to phone them but it would be nice to be armed with some background info before I do.
Many thanks

Sounds dodgy straight off to me, a legit company would not need to be so secretive
  • Just checked on Companies House and they have been around since 2003.

What little info on their web site says
Global Shares products can help you identify opportunities on stock markets around the world
So I guess you give them money and they predict what shares will make you a profit.

Personally I think that if I could predict which shares will go up I would buy them and make a profit for myself. The only reason for selling predictions is you make more money from that than actually following your predictions.

The other way these sights make money is to gain a large number of subscribers. Buy shares in a company then send an email to the subscribers telling them the price of shares in that company is about to shoot up, so they should buy as many shares as they can afford, and they will make a good profit when the price goes up.

If enough subscribers fall for it and buy shares in that company the price will go up. Then the site sells it's shares in that company and makes a profit. They can also claim a success as the price did go up.

The problem for the subscribers is that once all the subscribers have bought the shares is no body else wants to buy them, so the price falls again. The subscribers end up with share that suddenly went up but then fell back to what it was originally and the only person who made a profit is the site owner.

If you are going to get into buying shares, you should know this.

The price quoted is not what the shares are worth, it is what the last person who bought them paid. There is no guarantee the next person will pay that much for them. Nor is there a guarantee anyone will buy them at that price, or buy them at any price!

Edit: For "Shares Experts" - Yes, I know share have three prices, but for the purposes of this post I don't need to explain about bid, mid and offer price. It would just complicate things too much. Suffice to say that the price quotes is not the price you will sell them at.
  • I had the same frustrations. Before I started with them I tried to do a bit of research but couldn't find much as they don't seem to do any online marketing. I came across a few articles on the ireland branch but not much else. I don't know if this answers any of your questions but i've cut and pasted some excerpts below:

"Global Shares completed a second round of investment
and raised £1.8m by way of an issue of preference shares
convertible into ords on sale or flotation. The company
was advised by KPMG corporate finance in Dublin,
working closely with Ciara Reardon, Global Shares VP
Finance and the funding provided by an investment group
led by Richard Hayes, founder and former CEO of IFG
Group, a second group assembled by KPMG corporate
finance and by Enterprise Ireland. Richard Hayes joins

Global Shares’ board as a third non-executive director
along with Ron Bolger (Chairman) and Roy Bukstein.
The proceeds will enable the company to build on the
success it has achieved since it commenced operations in
October last year. The promoters Carine Schneider, CEO,
based in California and Maoiliosa O’Culachain, COO,
based in Ireland, aim to build Global Shares into a
leading global player in stock plan administration and
the company has already attracted 35 clients, including
Yahoo! eBay, Philips, Unilever, GSK, Reed Elsevier
    and CEVA Logistics."

and something about the UK operations which kicked off in 2003:
Global Shares, the newest share plan administrator to hit the
market since the advent of the latest international and US
stock plan accounting changes, announced the opening of
its UK operation. Since the Company’s official launch last
April, it has opened an administration centre in West Cork,
Ireland, in July and its US office in October. The UK move
endorsed the company’s policy to install its client
relationship teams in major cities worldwide to serve its
target markets. Caryn Sanders has joined the UK operation
as director of UK business development and Andy Rogers
as chairman of Global Shares UK. Caryn, who has 18 years
expertise in international share plans, said: “I am delighted
to be joining the team of industry specialists at Global
Shares – bringing the focus back to core customer service
values by providing optimum share plan administration and
affiliated services to this market.” Andy is chairman of the
European Marketing Group and is a former Bank of Ireland
executive. Global Shares is focussed on SME clients, public
and private companies, and hopes to bring a fresh flavour to
global share plan administration by promising to integrate
administration with the corresponding complex global tax
and accounting issues to make the lives of the companies
more seamless. Maoiliosa O’Culachain, Global Shares
COO, said: “Software, flexibility, proactive regulatory
compliance and an expert administration team, are what set
Global Shares apart. We have a great opportunity to raise
the bar in terms of expectations for global share plan
administration, and Global Shares is the company to take
    the market there.”

Apart from that, all we had was the info from them and the assurances of my wifes best friend and her husband who assurred us they were a worthwhile company.

Hesitantly, we decided to join them about four months ago. Being a naturally sceptical person i was wary of anything that seemed like a get rich quick scenario...i can safely say it's definitely not a get rich quick scheme...we're not rich!!:cheesy: We have however recovered our intitial investment and have started to make some decent profit so in hindsight it was a good decision.

The toughest thing about any investment is unlike a car you can't test drive it. You really don't know what you're going to end up with. In this case it's worked out, which is great, but every investment decision comes with a certain degree of the unknown. Thankfully, our returns are in line with the previous returns they had achieved and that's all we could really ask for.

This thread looks like it would be more at home on the savings and investments board - so I'll move it over there.

    MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Legit firms do not cold market investments. A rule of thumb is that if you get contacted you dont do anything and dont get suckered in. It doesnt matter how legit they sound or how wonderful their offering sounds.

BTW, the FSA register shows no company of that name.

Well if you limit yourself to te FTSE 100, something like:

Punter #1 is "tipped" share #1, punter #2 is tipped share #2 etc etc - 1% of them (or more) will do ok on the first (freebie) cut, 0.001% will do ok on the chargeable cut, continue until the mugs run out....

A modern version of the long-running "I've gotta horse" scam.
