Don't bother with PC Guard... in response to the other comments about not being infected in X number of years, can you be sure - do you cross-check occasionally with a competitors' product ? (i'm fairly adept at this stuff, but even I run multiple scans between products, and across a network where the software allows)

Yup, run occasional scans with the online scanner from Eset (and sometimes BitDefender's and Kapersky's) and as I said, never infected. Admittedly a large dose of common sense is equally the reason for that, as well as the anti-virus.

Personally, I strongly recommend AVG Free.
It's the best of the bunch in my opinion, and I have tried many (I'm a network administrator)

Really? It's the one that crops up the most (of the freebies) on the techie forum for either letting viruses through or picking up false positives. With the current versions I've found Avast and Antivir better. Although if you want something with a much smaller footprint and better detection you have to pay (worth it IMHO) for something like Eset.

I have had a few viruses today which are now in the AVG Vault. I have done all the other virus/malware as per the thread advice here.

Is it best to clear the viruses in the AVG ver 8.0 Vault by deleting or "emptying vault"?? I am not sure if they do the same thing? Just wary as it took a while to "catch" the virus with AVG.

Yes go ahead and empty the vault if you want and are happy the files it caught were viruses.

Well i did an online Housecall virus check and that did not find the same problems.
Is emptying the vault the same as deleting? or do the virus just disappear in some black hole within my pc??
