The highly respected Nod32 anti-virus now has an online scanner here:

Trend and AVG are not as good as they once were. The best that I have discovered so far is called Avast! Avast is a lot lighter on your system but is very thorough at the same time
It's not an online scanner though is it.

And AVG is just as good as Avast, and just as light on resources if not more so (AVG is using just 700Kb here). But Avast in my experience has a tendency to pick up false positives (not something a beginner will necessarily want though fine for a more knowledgeable user who will understand about false positives and not automatically/accidentally delete something that isn't actually malware).

  • Hi everyone, This is my first time on this site so apologies if Ive put anything in the wrong place. My dell laptop crashed a week ago (not sure what happend) Windows would not load so took it to my local pc shop, he said there was a hardware problem and that his dell windows system restore cd would not work. So I stood in the shop and did it myself (still had to pay him 25 quid wot a waste). The system started (which left a very ashamed shop keeper). So he would not help me further as i did it myself. Now the hardware is not installed properly on my laptop as there is no sound from the speakers and my keyboard keys are mixed up, also i ran a free scan through Reg Cure which detected 406 errors on my hard drive but to fix the errors reg cure want me to subscribe for a license number. Does anyone have this please? Or is there any similar product I could use to get rid of the errors.

Sorry for the ever so long boring post.

    Lookin forward to your replies!!!!

    Thanks for reading.!!!!!!

you need to go to the manufacturers web site and download the drivers again,

    http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs

this will fix registry and other problems

    http://www.download.com/3000-2094_4-10787492.html

run "1-click" when it is installed

if you still have problems afterwards then start a new thread of your own ;)

Leave the registry WELL alone unless you know what your doing (otherwise you may just end up reinstalling Windows again). Those so called errors will no doubt be completely harmless. And, on a side note, always beware of any program that claims to finds hundred of errors then tells you to pay to fix them!
