although not an entire system scanner.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
is an online file scanner which submits the file to a range of online scanners.
its interesting sometimes to see how many pick up something and how many dont.0 -
The highly respected Nod32 anti-virus now has an online scanner here:
http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
(Requires Internet Explorer)
I use Avg but I've been having a few problems with the pc this past few days. I ran the ESET online scanner which took forever but found a virus the problem is that it didn't deal with it, all I got was a link to where to buy the scanner.
Before I run a different one from the list in the first post, do they all get rid of the viruses if they find any?:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -

Small word of warning here - the online scanners usually work fully, and will remove the malware as a one-off freebie, as an encouragement to buy their full product.
Are you sure it was a link from ESET being offered, as the normal modus operandi for malware is to offer to sell you a product that:
1) promises to remove what it "found" (even though it put it there itself)
2) will use the opportunity of taking money off a sucker to install even more malware with their "cure"
I've put pretty much all I know about spyware on my website, and everything I link to is free with the exception of Pest Patrol (which you don't need to buy anyway, I was just impressed with it as a product) - here: http://www.coreutilities.co.uk
One final warning, be very wary about anything that offers to remove malware following a search engine hunt or from links - there are about 4 times more FAKE removal programs than there are legit ones.
If you do need to go searching for solutions, take particular notice of anything at castlecops.com - they're really good on malware cleaning !0 -
I've only tried the links that are in the first post on this thread.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0

Please take the PANDA scanner off of the list.
It found 270 "suspicious" files then told me that one can be removed but I would have to pay them for removal of the other 269.
Total con and waste of 2 hours.A greedy man's bag is never full0 -
Hi all,
I have one that no one seems to have mentioned:
A Squared Online Scan, found at: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/ax/
This is a very good online scan that will detect viruses, trojans, malware etc. I have used this online scan many times and it is a very good and comprehensive scanner. Would high recommend this.

I too am a technical idiot and this probably isn't the best place to post this but....My last AV subscription ran out so I've been trying to use the free ones suggested in this weeks email. Tried AVG first as it was top of the list. I got right through to the end and it told me I still had an AV running so I needed to uninstall that first before going ahead with the new one. I uninstalled the old one but now I can't find the new one! Even when I attempt to install it again through download.com it doesn't do anything - it just thanks me for choosing it - and there is nothing in the control panels list of programs to suggest it is there. Finally I got avast installed but ever since trying to install AVG, I can't check either my Yahoo or Hotmail emails. I can see the Yahoo one but just can't do anything with it (read, compose, delete etc.), the Hotmail just opens with a blank screen. I can only open certain websites too. This being one along with ebay. Can't open facebook at all and I'm beginning to get withdrawal symptoms!! Could this be connected?Noticed a message which said something along the lines of "if you are seeing this, your browser settings prevent you from automatically directing to a new URL. Please click here to continue" I'd do that if it stayed on the screen long enough!!Any ideas guys and girls? I've cleared all my cookies, temp folder, passwords etc.English by birth. Start your own thread on the main board. (Click on the new thread button at the top of the techie board). You'll get more people seeing it and it won't be irrelevant to the place you're posting. This thread is about listing online scanners (which has nothing to do with installing anti virus programs)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Well thanks for the advice. I opened a new thread but it hasn't any replies...yet! In a way though, I'd have said my previous post was relevant to this thread as I was asking if anybody else had had a problem with installing AVG or if it was just a coincidence that since trying to install it that I can't check my emails!English by birth.
