Help! Tesco coupon policy? I've been banned!

I'm shocked if Tesco's are stupid enough to have a policy of accepting coupons for products which have not been purchased at the time the coupon has been presented. I can't believe Tesco would have such a policy, I can see cashiers scanning coupons without checking a item has been purchased.0

As stated in previous posts, it is company policy to accept coupons for products not actually purchased, provided they stock the item.0 -
my clubcard points dont come every 3 mths as i'veagreed for tesco to holdthem till xmas.I dont go often but instead of £3 per quarter i have £12 this yr waiting for me .Perhaps this is what igloo has done?
i hadtheoffer in a mailing.Every day above ground is a good one0 -
Weyres wrote:igloo, I am so sorry that this happened to you. (I don't think you can actually be banned from any store unless they send you a legal letter stating it!)
Whilst I don't for a second blame IGLOO for not giving name & address it does make it difficult for Tesco to send a letter!
IMO Tesco need to remove the discretion given to local stores over coupons - even if that means a ban on any for things not purchased. That way at least everyone would know where they stood!
On question IGLOO - after this has all been dealt with - hopefully in your favour would you go shopping the store gain?0 -
brummybloke wrote:she was legally detained as she had commited fraud (a criminal offence if you didnt know) they could have wasted their time calling the police but instead decided not to waste their time, unlike some suggestions that she should have called the police, they have then retrieved their property.
Please go ahead and tell us at what point igloo committed fraud?
So they detained her for committing fraud - but then "let her go" because they couldn't be bothered calling the police?
I would have thought someone with such considerable "legal knowledge through studying and practice" would be careful about defaming others in a public place like you just have?
Let me give you this advise[sic] - you might need a dictionary before you tackle Blackstones mate.
GOOD LUCK IGLOO!!!!0 -
I don't use vouchers often, and then only for the items ( not money saving, but partly my morals , partly my potential embrassment if refused)
One I have in my wallet at moment
To the customer
..... This voucher may only be redeemed against XXXXX...
To the Retailer
... Accepting it in lieu of payment for any other article constitutes fraudAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Del_Boy_Gupta wrote:...If you have as many points as you say you did on the card and were using the amount of coupons you were I am not overly surprised- the 11000 points in a 3 month period (as Tesco vouchers are sent out every 3 months) equates to roughly £1000 worth of shopping a week (assuming no special deals). i know you mentinoed that you had joined a few clubs etc to get bonus points however the only way these would equate to the amount in question would be ( i state in my view as i am not casting any comments regarding your situation or your character)
a)if you were doing vast amounts of shopping per day, i presume with coupons
b) specifically targetting bonus point items and making excessive purchases more than the stores bulk buy policy
c) putting points on your card from receipts that hadn't had them added on already as per a previous thread......
I basically hand coupons over and see what happens. They nearly always just scan what they can.
To respond to the clubcard question above…. “how the amount of points had been amassed?” . I do not think 11000 points is that high!
Do you realize that you can gain points not only via grocery shopping?
My gas and electric are with Powergen. I get points for every payment I make. (£80 per month = 240 points per quarter)
I recently signed up for Tesco home phone. I had to remain a customer for three months and then I would receive 2000 points for doing so as well as points for all my calls. I signed up in April so my points went on in July so they should be in this mailing.
My car insurance is about £500....paid with my Tesco credit card in July=250 points.
My home insurance is £300 paid with my Tesco credit card in June 150 points.
Used clubcard vouchers to get £500 in deals tokens….spent £550 in MFI in July=550 points
Every single thing I buy anywhere, if they take Visa, I use my Tesco credit card 1 point for every £2 spent. We probably spend about £1200 a month which is an easy 600 points each month , 1800 a quarter
Every litre of petrol that goes in our cars....Tesco pumps. Approx £20 per week per car the points soon mount up to about 500 per quarter
My father recently gave me 10 hewlett packard empty ink cartridges....sent them in to Tesco to recycle. 500 points.
I received a mailing from them 150 points if i bought a childs birthday cake(bought one),
150 points if I spent £5 on kids clothing(bought shirts for when he goes back to school),
200 points if I spent £8 on red wine,
150 points if I spent £4 on frozen food.
250 points If I spend £10 on womens clothing
Also, I don’t know if anyone knows this but if you’ve got any clubcard vouchers which are more than two years old and have expired. Don’t throw them in the bin because if you phone them up, they will add them back into this quarters mailing. They know exactly which ones have been used and which ones haven’t. I found £15 from 2002 and they’ve added them into this mailing.
I’ve had three mailings which I haven’t even used yet-
1000 points if I spend £75 of groceries online (ive been given a code to enter at checkout)
Another mailing for 1000 points if I spend £50 on wine online
And 500 points if I spend £20 on CDs or games online
All these points not including grocery and the instore offers . Ive signed up for all the clubs and must have had about four of the double points coupons which are bound to push points up.
My points total is around 16500 and counting.
If you think this is a lot, here are a few quotes from people on another thread on this website-
3634 Clubcard points
I'm a happy bunny.
Pah!

Igloo, dont worry about what people are saying on here. Tesco were in the wrong handling it the way thay did and theyve brought it on themselves by accepting coupons in the first place.
They should decide what is their policy and stick to it. There would not be any grey area then as to what they can and can't accept and they should also tell their staff what is policy.
I note above that there is a tesco checkout assistant who is on the checkout and hasnt been told herself what the policy is. What chance do the customers have?0 -
I didn't think trained lawyers worked 12 hour night shifts?
It's a hackneyed phrase but people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. If you can't take people criticising you when you post offensive and inaccurate messages then maybe you should find a different forum to give your most excellent advice (noun) to?You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
