  • Hi,

MBNA are advertising MBNA Platinum Plus MasterCard which give you MBNA points for purchasing. These points can be exchanged for cash but they dont say what the points are worth, does anyone know anymore about this?

They dont seem to publish this information, im wondering whether its equal to 1 - 2% other cash back cards offer. I suspect you can only cash in set amount of points. On the American site the more points you save and then cash in the more the points are worth.
  • I had a Morgan Stanley credit card with the cash back offers and when the cash back offer ran out I was going to close my card. I phoned about the cashback and asked when it would be paid and they said on the years anniversary so I have to keep the card open even though I am not using it.If I close the card I lose the cashback!.

glad i read this as i was going to aply for an egg card today thinking it was the best cashback card, with good discounts at certain stores like currys etc. But i gather their cashback has changed and martins guidance is out of date. So what are the best cashback ones available at the moment ? any ideas please ?

AFAIK nothing has changed and Martin's article isn't out of date. The best card for big spenders is Amex Platinum ...

thanks for the reply grumbler, I spend about £1000 a month on my card and pay it off religously. However I think a lot of people dont accept amex I know my compamy doesnt, so would i be better with something else ?

Most of those who use Amex have some other Visa/Mastercard cashback card for backup : Amex Coverage ?
  • Where does the Bank of Ireland CC stand now re cashback. When I took it out it was highly recommended but now I can't find any info.

I dont earn enough for the Amex card and I have quite a high limit on the BoI CC so don't necessary want to change.

Does anybody know what the cashback rate is on my existing card?
  • Just opened an Egg Money card because of the attractive 1% cashback, but I came to a different (probably wrong!) conclusion from Martin (in the updated article) over the best way to use the card.

I've opted for 'pay off in full' because I think the disadvantage of pre-loading is that your purchases get deducted from a positive balance as soon as they are made, i.e. you lose the up to 50-day interest-free credit which is worth quite a bit over a year...

I desagreee too with Martin's statement that
The best way to use this account is as a Cashback card that you can front-load...
You are right that in this case you lose up to 56 days interest-free period on purchases. Also you can get more than 4% interest on many instant-access accounts.
  • Reading the D Express - some article made reference to someoen getting 2% back when using Yorkshire Building Society card - had a quick look online and could only see 1%

Can you get 2% anywhere? :A
