Don't know about YBS, but for first 6 months you can get 2% with Morgan Stanley. If you are a big spender you can get 2% with Amex Platinum on everything you spend above £7,500 p.a.
Did you read the article being discussed in this thread?

    Hi folks,

Went for the American Express card after seeing the reports and some good feedback on here, it's been quite good, although I think the only problem is that it isn't quite as generally accepted as some of the other cards. But still you can't complain
I have to complain about this one. So much of my shopping is done on the internet and I have found that more often than not the retailers do not accept Amex so I then use my Sainsbury's visa card. On further reading on this site am now going to apply for the Conran card and use that where I can't use the Amex card but I think Martin should point this out in his best cashback article. However couldn't find the best place to make that point other than emailing him direct which I'm not sure is acceptable for this kind of comment.

Accucard also offer .5% cashback and I've been with them now for about a year with no problems.
However the best deal I ever came accros was Halifax. I took out a credit card with them and spent £30 in the first month and they gave me £50 for doing it. I paid of the balance without incurring any interest and haven't used the card since (because the cash back rate is rubbish).
I haven't seen an offer like that since and doubt if I'll see one again!

I was wondering if the Halifax offer has closed now, as this was dated August 2005..... does anyone know?

Has anyone managed to apply for a conran card recently? Their application site seems to have been down since before Christmas. I've tried phoneing the number that's put up and it's just normal MBNA customer service. When I eventually got through to the applications department they told me they wouldn't accept applications over the phone!!

I'd really like to apply for one but don't know how I can.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Glenn.

Actually, I've found it but you have to go through the MBNA site not the Conran site as the links don't work.

I think it probably is although it's a matter of oppinion. The American Express ones might have more cash back, but if the shops you use don't accept them then (I buy a lot of stuff online) it's a bit pointless. That's why I've chosen to apply for this one as at least, being Visa, I know I can use it anywhere.

    Yes and No.

Please read Martin’s cashback credit card article.

My preferred card is Amex Platinum up to 2% cashback.
[only worthwhile if your annual spend is £9,000+]

Under £9,000 spend – Amex Blue card up to 1% - Beats Conran in first year.
[Amex special offer – Refer to Martin’s article]

Amex charge a membership fee if less than £500 spent on their card per annum.

For those times when Amex is not accepted – I use a Conran card.
    [straight 1% cashback]

I use a Nationwide Gold credit card for all transactions outside of the UK.
Better exchange rate and no “built in” charge.
[Again, Martin has an article covering this topic]

**Note** Do not use the MBNA Conran card for gambling transactions such as the purchase of lottery tickets/football pools etc. MBNA will apply a fee as they now class such transactions as a cash advance.
