I have ordered The Tightwad Gazette after somebody on here rave about it, and gets really good reviews on Amazon...will take ages to get here tho as is coming from America0

What I like about the TWG is that it is a how-to rather than a what-to do book if you know what I mean.0
-
I like the TWG because of the style it is written in, but find some of the advice not very useful as it is for US residents. Nevertheless, it makes interesting and amusing reading. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

I have Cas Clarke's Grub on a Grant and apart from the fact that most of the recipes are for 1 or 2 and I'm feeding 6, I've found it to be great.
Unfortunately, I bought a hard backed copy of Delia Smith's Frugal Food....it's sitting untouched in my cupboard...thankfully I got it for free with vouchers, but still, a complete waste.0 -
It's not a cookery book but I'd recommend "Nella Last's War".It's the diary of a housewife during WW2 and she lists the meals she made-she was an expert on stretching their rations.0

The best book for baking has got to be the Be-Ro Recipe Book!
My Mum still has hers from School, and I got my first one from School too!
It's definately one of my most used recipe books!
There are loads on ebay (for about £2) but I think you can order them directly from Be-Ro too

One of my other favourites is Jamies Ministry of Food

the Darina Allen's 'Forgotten Skills of Cooking has fantastic reviews so thanks for that pointre red squirrel.... I am hugely tempted...especially as our library dosnt have it in the catalogue....I can feel another not at all money saving moment coming on....Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

It's free in the East Riding :j
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing OS books thread.

I ordered my copy new from Amazon, rather than used from the US. Prefer to do this with overseas book purchases as I've been misled before about books being in 'very good' condition when they are almost falling apart - Of course, it's a little more expensive but qualifies for free delivery and I cherish my books for years. I got mine in three days (from UK)0 -
on a more fly lady like note - i bought the messies manual - by sandra felton
I was just starting cleanign the house - well thinking about it...and to that end had started assembling the required to clean the cooker - when - welcome break - this was delivered - ahhhah! welcome distraction - 1st page - "messy people will start a job like cleanin the house by ....cleaning the cooker !" - this is an excellent book - and I re-read it about once a year to remind myself why i dont need stuff - how difficult it makes it to have a clean home - and how much happier I am with space than stuff
it may not appeal to everyone - but to me - a revalation.......Fight Back - Be Happy0
