'Vim and Vinegar' by Melodie Moore makes very interesting reading and has given me loads of ideas:'hundreds of ingenious household uses for vinegar'!

The pret a manger cook book is really good for lunches, as they are very good value and look and taste amazing
Jamie Oliver's ministry of food and his Jamies Kitchen one
I didn't get on with delia's frugal food, her recipes were a bit funny and I didn't have the stuff already in
oh and the favourite recipe selection books which cost just over £1 new. Really good little books!
    Rachel Allen's bake is brilliant

    However....

The best one I have is my Darina Allen complete cookery course and the lost skills of cookery (they're a tenner from the book people) and they are brilliant. Everything from how to grow veg to how to bone a chicken and how to keep a chicken in your garden right the way through to how to make mayonaise. Everything you would want to know!

I've had a big Mrs Beeton (and bought one each for my DDs when they left home) for more years than I care to remember. I don't need to refer to it very often any more but it's been a brilliant source of reference to cook all and anything over the years. These days almost everything is available on the net but it is good to have some books.

I recently got a copy of Eat well spend less by Sarah Flower.

I find it a really useful book - no pictures mind but full of practical advice and nice tasty recipes. I recommend the tomato soup recipe!

    Hi guys

I love reading all the posts on here, makes me want to try so many new (old) things, but I was wondering if anyone has any book recommendations - old or new - that they've used as guides for home / living / food the old style way.

Managed to borrow Martins book and it was great but Id love some more to be able to dip into, rather than power up the laptop :D
