moving into a rented house on the 2nd of Aril. never had sky before and would like to avail this offer. as i will only be able to get a landline sorted by the move in day (2/4/08), and looking at the sky website, i could gather that u need a landline no. if u need to book a new account,
can anyone suggest a good way to go about this.
can i just book one for them to connect for the last week of March and then call and postpone the date, provided i could get a landline number from the previous tenants of the house? any ideas??

Just book an install date - and then call to 'postpone' and they will schedule in a new date.

    Easy:)

I have removed my antivirus software, antispyware, and firewall. I have tried to use my partner's PC. I have tried to use Firefox browser. and I still can't access the SKY link from every cashback websites. The interesting thing is I CAN ACCESS ALL OTHER RETAILERS FROM TOPCASHBACK (OR ANY CASHBACK WEBSITES).

I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG. CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASEEE.. ???

The assumption has to be that Sky are blocking from their end due to over subscription (and loss of commision to the cashback sites).
  • You dont need a sky+ box to pause live TV/record without tapes/series link etc, just get a digibox with a built in hard drive and you can do all the clever Sky+ tricks on freeview channels, and its completely free!!

These boxes have been around for ages, made my the likes of Thomson/Humax/Digibox, they're sometimes called PVRs but theyre basically just freeview boxes with build in hard drives. They only cost ~£100 and you get a 14-day programme guide, downloaded every night with no subscriptions.

For some unknown reason theyve never taken off in the UK (unlike Tivo which is widepread in the US), but I've had a Thomson box for 3 years already, completely changed the way I watch TV, would never go back!!

As always, NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY!!!!!!!!!! Sky dont give a toss to loyal customers!

yes it is new customers only...but that doesnt mean that your partner/wife/family member can open one in their name, unless you live on your own in which case you are right...

    What are you saying then??
So, just because some people have thousands of posts they must be the ones to trust? Come on, get real. That's like me saying that the ones with thousands of posts need to get a life, and are constant moaners, and the ones with just a few are the ones that only post when they have something of worth to say. But of course, we all know that is a wrong assumption as well.

I think the point being made is that the "3 posters only" are "judas goats" who if not actually employed by the offending entity being talked about (here Sky, but it applies to any busines with a bad customer service reputation), have some axe to grind, like being paid to post positive articles by the aforesaid perhaps, or being one of the few customers treated well by the business, so that the few happy (and oblivious to the real nature of the business practises) customers spread the apparent good-word around that the business is not really as bad as 90% of the rest of the customers say.

In other words, they only join and post to counteract the negative articles then never bother to add anything else to the forum on any other topic or interest.

You would have to suspect why they bother this time, if they cannot be bothered normally to contribute to the forum community.

    Sez me, anyway

Your probably right, but it would be more useful to show newbies how to check authenticity and motives: ie. click on the poster's nom de plum and look at when they joined and what they have posted and use your own judgement as to where they are coming from............
  • I just called Virgin Media to cancel my services and go for this deal. Their retentions department offered me the basic TV package, talk unlimited phone and 2mb broadband (soon to be upgraded to 4mb) for £19.99 only £3.49 more than this deal (£6 for sky and £10.50 for BT phone rental). A few quid extra but you do get an extra 2mb on the broadband and all calls are free.

My advice, if your with Virginmedia and you don't miss Sky One too much then call the retentions department and get negotiating.

Hi, I'm trying to go for this deal but when I put my phone number in to check for broadband availability it comes back offering me the broadband connect package only at an extra £17/month on top of the £19 (4 mixes) for sky tv. I am not getting the option of the free broadband and can't delete the 8mb broadband connect from my basket. I don't want to phone them and lose the £150 quidco.

Have you clicked on the tab for broadband?
If you don't the default setting selects 8mb
