You can pay by cash, credit or debit card in your local post office with the payment slip on the bottom of your bill

Alternatively you can request a payment card from LPS and pay at a local payzone by cash also

Although LPS may no longer accept cash directly, according to the notes that issued with my bill apparently you can still pay by cash at any post office, bank, building society, garage or local shop (Centra, Mace, Spar and Vivo) displaying the PayZone logo. So in that sense the number of places accepting rates payments has actually increased.

Yes thanks. I was told at the office that I could go to those places. Probably my fault for not reading everything in the first place! It is frustrating/inconvenient as I don't have a cheque book, and credit/debit card is not accepted, meaning I have to either setup a DD or pay cash which LPS no longer accept. I am also reluctant to setup a DD as my bank charge a fee for that service. I don't think my local shop would be too appreciative of me coming in with a pile of cash to pay for my rates.

Sadly this approach of not accepting cash or charging fee to accept cash appears to be happening with lots of other organisations as well . I think BT, Talk Talk, VM all charge extra for paying cash . NIE I believe give a *discount* if you pay with DD, (which may also be looked at as charging customers that pay by other methods), etc, etc.

The bank may well be the best option for me. Can I just go in with the slip and hand over the cash like the rates office?

Is there somewhere where you can check the rateable values of neighbouring properties? I know there used to be but I cant remember where it was.
  • Hola folks ... bit random, but hey, my mind has apparently shut down!
Recently moved banks so all the direct debits etc are filtering through ... thing is the rates don't appear to have come out ... at first I thought, darn it ... then my mind started saying, you only pay rates 10 months of the year, Feb and March are non paying months, then you pick up with your new bill in April ... could this be true or am I rather scarily making things up????

Actually we just changed banks recently, the rates were one of 3 companies that didn't seem to either receive or accept the new dd mandate. We didn't realise until we received a letter to say rates hadn't been paid. We called them and gave our new details and we'll be paying double amount this month to make up for missed payment.

It may be worth your while just checking with them that they did receive your new bank details..
