A gentle cleanser which helped clear up my acne (I didn't have acne rosacea, just severe adult acne) was the 'Fresh Farmacy' cleansing soap from Lush. Very gentle, smells nice and soothing on the skin.

Do you do this in the same way as oil cleansing method but with cold water? I have found that if the water isn't hot enough then my skin feels so oily and horrible.

My forehead is so greasy anyway.

I wouldn't say I do it exactly the same way as the OCM as I believe it involves more massaging than I do. Too much massaging/rubbing makes my skin worse.
I use the grapeseed oil like a cleanser, rub it in then get a flannel rinsed in cold water and wipe off the oil, rinse and repeat til it's off.

Hi - I tried Metrogel years ago and it had no effect. Recently I returned to the docs and am now taking antibiotics on a long term basis, however I now only use Macadamian Nut oil as a moisturiser and each night cleanse my face with a cotton pad suffused with the nut oil and a couple drops of Tea Tree Oil. This is because there is some unsubstantiated research which links the eye lash mites (Demodex) with the acne roscea - my own experience is that it's very effective.

I began a thread about it yoinks ago.. however I find that if I don't use the oil and then oil/tea tree combination I have severe breakouts of sores. TBH I don't know if it's the antibiotics or the nut oil/tea tree oil combination which is more effective and I really don't want to stop one or other to find out. After over 30 years with the problem I'm just grateful that I now have some control over it.

Oh, I also wash my face with cool water and Tea Tree Oil facial wash.

Hope this helps, though I have to emphasis that the combination works for me and is not proven.

Well... seems there is research which backs up this connection!

  • I read that, very interesting and makes sense.. So is your routine still working for your skin Gers?
  • Amazon has a variety of options giving full user reviews regarding to acne skincare product but I find most of them contain Metronidazole it's all about how fast can it cure you.

Yes, it is. I find the macadamian oil plus a couple of drops of tea tree oil at night really good and, if I forget/miss doing it my skins soons screams at me.

Recently I've been in the Middle East for a business trip and the odd hours meant that the antibiotics sometimes got forgotten about, and sometimes the oil too. Now that I'm back home I have a couple of sore spots but they are clearing up well with the disciplined regime again.

Still can't tell which is the efficacious treatment so am happy to do both for the meanwhile. I am considering dropping the antibiotics for a while as it can't be 'good' for me overall.

I'm happy with managing/eradicating the demedox mites and am convinced the system is working.

I've been using the Metrogel at night only, as it is just so peely there's no way I could wear that to work! It's working wonders.

I've also started putting on Body Shop Aloe vera moisturiser in the morning and that makes my skin sweat loads, which is horrid, but apart from that doesn't seem to be causing any problems.

I've just been washing with bar soap at night and then in the morning I was the Metrogel off with a flannel and lukewarm water. I've also used a Johnsons gentle exfoliating wash a few times this week.

Fingers crossed, it seems to be calming down. I might try experimenting with some of the products you've all recommended once it's all settled down again. I'm wary of trying the OCM again, even with cooler water, because before that my skin was just always rosy but then it got much worse!

WOW! The information make me understand. You helped me so much. Thanks for sharing this. It made me understand something, and it is that I never knew before.
  • Hi, my Dr told me I had Rosacea, i now use a 'Wonder Cloth' bought from TK Max, which has soothed and keeps my rosacea under control. In the first few weeks of using it (just like a flannel) so many people commented on how fresh my skin looked :D
Just didnt get on with any creams/potions or specialised make up.

I use Cetaphil high tolerance cleanser - £8 in Boots, but can also use Avene cleansers as they are really good too. I use Avene anti-rouge moisturisers usually but have tried loads of different ones to see what my skin can tolerate. Boots protect and perfect moisturisers are all well tolerated by my skin which surprised me. Clinique redness solutions one didn't reduce redness but didn't exacerbate the condition either. OCM works really, really well and reduces redness, but it is just trial and error finding the right combination. Mine is 40% castor, 40% sweet almond, 10% jojoba and 10% wheatgerm. I also add a few drops of carrot as well, but as it's bright orange and can stain you might want to leave this out!

The best range IMO is Avene. It can calm a reaction and reduce redness in a week or so. I just wish it was more affordable.

I'm always on the look out for rosacea treatments so will watch this thread carefully.
