Hi everyone!
Can anyone tell me where to get cheap curling ribbon from??
DD age 10 made a card with this 'holey' foil type stuff with curling ribbon woven in and out and it looked great. We bought some of the holey stuff but trying to find cheap ribbon ie a friend got 500 yards (or metres) for 95p ages ago online but I can't find any that cheap.
Have also posted on crafty 4 christmas thread so sorry if you've read this twice, just hope to find someone who has a good idea. Someone suggested florist suppliers but the one I found had dear p & p which bumped the prices up.
Thanks in advance!
Ps Loving your amazing cards!
Do you have a Hobbycraft near you, I know they sell large reels of it in different colours. If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -

I'm brand new to card crafting so please forgive my ignorance.
I have recently bought a todays special value set of Christmas card making stuff from QVC but when it came apart from all the fancy toppers, it had included in the box, lots of sheets of patterned card in - do I cut this up as backgrounds to stick to the front of the cards i'm making and what glue should I use?
I was also wondering ... what do I make the actual base cards with? Do I just fold coloured A4 card in half, and glue fancy card and toppers to it.
I dont think I could fold a card good enough to look professional any tips.
And can I also ask - when including an insert, should I cut the insert slightly smaller than the actual card and where do you glue it.
Looking forward to having a go and amazing my friends & family with beautifully hand crafted cards this year - whilst also having fun and saving myself a fortune by not buying them - many thanks for any help.
Hi almar, welcome to the thread! I'm not a card making expert by any means but here's some thoughts from me...
For your actual card you can buy pre-folded 'blank' cards or make your own by as you said above, folding a piece in half. A4 card folded in half makes a C5 size card; A5 card folded makes a C6 size card. You can buy special items to help you score and fold card neatly (I haven't got such things and tend to just fold and use the back of my metal ruler to get a neat crease - works for me).
For inserts I would make them about 2.5cm smaller than the card on all sides so you get a small card 'edge'. Use double sided tape along the central crease line so the insert gets stuck slightly on both sides. Does that make sense?
I don't use much actual glue in card making (I get in too much mess!). I tend to use loads of double sided tape to stick card and paper, glue dots for smaller things, 3D foam to give a raised effect, glue for when I've got something that needs sticking firmly (e.g metal).
For card making basics like glue, scissors etc it's worth having a look at ebay, Hobbycraft, Wilkinsons.
Good luck and enjoy it. I don't think there are any right ways or wrong ways to make cards, your cards will be uniquely made by you and that's what will make them so special. Don't be affraid to experiment with different colours etc, you can always try a layout without sticking anything to see if you like it.

I got some curling ribbon from Tesco a couple of weeks ago, it was about 19p and there was a great pile of it amongst all the reduced seasonal stuff....A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... rusty - my word you have been busy and such lovely card they are:T
I've done none all week apart from messing about with two for sons 40th.........one from me, one on behalf of mum.......wanted them to be nice for him and still not sure but they'll have to do..............he'll be happy anyway.
almar - hello and welcome. You'll soon get the hang of it and rainmac's instructions are very clear.
I just buy sheets of A4 card, cut them in half them fold them. I stick patterned paper on as a backing (Makes plain white card look a bit more interesting, or I use odd pieces of it to liven up a fairly plain card.
I normally use Pritt Stick glue but have double sided tape for some things and glue dots. Peel offs are easy to use and can be very effective.
Have a look at some of the odds and ends around the house as well. Surprising what you can do with a few buttons and pieces of ribbon.
Good luckMary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !
