Going to look at 2 more tomorrow afternoon, one I had discounted before cos it didn't look in great condition from the outside, and one I had actually stupidly missed on right move as we are looking up to 140 and it is on at 142! So hopefully that will take my mind off it.
It's difficult though as they are all very similar 1930s semis and so it is very hard not to compare everything we see with the one we offered on.
The EA is probably furious too, he has missed out on a good sale.
We have shown them proof of mortgage agreed in principle, instructed solicitors, etc and are FTBs, so it can't be us as a couple that is the problem!0 -
They are "cutting off their nose to spite their face".
You could keep looking and then give the EA a call in a couple of weeks- see if the vendor has had anymore offers - if not then you could suggest your offer might still be open..... you never know...
Or if you see somewhere you might like to offer on, ring the EA and tell them you have seen somewhere you like and will be withdrawing your offer and proceeding with another property - but should the vendor change their mind within the next few hours etc etc...
But it really sounds like they don't want to move. Wherever they buy will no doubt be struggling to sell and discounted or open to offers - so I can't imagine 2.5K is going to lose them their dream home in the country (that is presuming the house in the country is as expensive as I imagine it might be!).
Oh well - chin up. At least this will all be valuble experience in preparation for your next "target".

on the 142k house, don't be scare of making an offer around 133k, and letting them talk you up to the 135k (assuming of course you like the house enough to make an offer). Remember you will also be looking at the sellers as well as the house from now on, and finding a good seller could be as useful for you as finding a perfect house. After all you can always make the changes yourself to the house when you have moved in.It's a health benefit ...0

Just rang the estate agent for the house we put the offer in for, and they said there have been 4 more viewings since I saw it and one offer. She wouldn't tell me the price but she said it was lower than my offer.
That has annoyed me a bit because in this market they seem to be getting quite a few viewings and have had 2 offers in 2 weeks now, which may make them think they can hold out for a better one!
I also hope this girl who put the offer in doesn't up it, and get the house over us.
The estate agent said she could ring back and ask if they would reconsider our offer, but I said no, stating that I was seeing another house on Tuesday. My mum wants me to wait a couple of weeks before resubmitting the same offer cos she thinks it is more likely to be accepted if we do .
Getting really annoyed about it now, cos we went for a drive around again yesterday and we REALLY want the house!
PS would getting a lower offer actually make them think ours was more acceptable? Or not really? TBH they don't seem that rational anyway so who knows!0 -
If you want it, I'd resubmit the offer now. You can always resubmit it again in a couple of weeks if they still won't accept it! Resubmit with the offer of being flexible with regard to the vendors' required moving dates etc.
Another slightly lower offer would have me considering whether I was wrong to turn down such a good one. I'm surprised they wouldn't accept it before tbh, I thought everyone had a little leeway (unless of course they *need* that money to clear the mortgage/move up.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks Doozergirl, in that case, I may call up the agent again and ask them to resubmit the offer on Tuesday.
That is the thing, I know that they paid 69k for the house in 2001 so they don't need it for the mortgage, and they haven't decided on which area they want to move to yet, so it can't be that they need to afford a specific house!
If that is their attitide to offers, I think whoever they buy from may get a good deal!0 -
People remortgage to fund their lifestyles. It is possible that they have mortgaged themselves up to pay for holidays/improvements/car on the drive. You never know

They said they would accept 137,500. It is on for 139,950.
We offered 135.
Apparently there is no movement on this 137,500 figure so you may be right about taking out extra mortgage.0 -

These people sound like a nightmare to deal with - and that's before you've even "got into bed" with them.
Please don't "fall in love" with property.
There is bound to be another, better one along in a few weeks' time.
It's a buyer's market. Anyone who is barely literate will have read this in the papers.
These vendors just sound like idiots.
I was viewing a property the other week. It had dropped in price three times in those three weeks as the vendor genuinely needed to move.
Find one of those properties and you'll be laughing, not tearing your hair out.0
