I had a phone call from city credit management today (10/12/07) at 4pm saying they were a govenment legislation company asking me to pay £150 to clear all my outstanding debts an a officer from ccm will call me tomorrow, i found it abit odd so i phoned my friend who works at my local jobcentre who said there is no such scheme, who in turn told me to contact trading standards which i have done (consumer direct 08454 04 05 06 answer calls on behalf of trading standards) who will take down the details then pass it on to trading standards. They (ccm) phone people from different places so numbers will be different all the time.

WHATEVER U DO PLEASE DON'T SAY YES TO CITY CREDIT MANAGEMENT AS THEY ARE A CON.

who Are These People

I Am Not Impressed With The Way These People Operate. They Are Scammers, They Prey On Genuin People Like You And Me, They Cold Call And Then Very Professionaly Lie To You. I Strongly Advise You All To Steer Clear Of City Credit Management.

I think you'll find that because you sent a postal order the recipient will have to produce some form of ID, this is usualy the case because other wise the recieving post office would be liable for any mis-appropriated funds... I believe this is the case. Hope this helps you and you get it sorted. PS if you bought the Postal order with a Debit or credit card, you may find that the bank will offer an insurance award. it may be worth asking them.

i had the same phone call today at 5pm after asking same ? like where are you calling from and she said in the uk but could not tell me where and after 30sec then the line went dead so called the number you gave out and told them everything thanks very much. vendman

I have just recieved the same call. Asked them who they were, how they got my number and where they were calling from, 1. City Credit Management. 2. apparently it is possible to get someones details from a database of credit lenders so anyone with a credit card, store card etc etc Oh and he told me he was calling from south east asia!! TOTAL CON DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO!

Having had 3 calls from this lot in the past few days, offering to arrange an IVA for me, I decided that I had had enough, I typed their name into google and became very alarmed when the second reference to them was this thread. So I 1471'd the call and then telephoned consumer direct.
If they call again I shall have great pleasure in telling them that it has been referred to Trading Standards!!!

well i just had a phonecall from this company city cred management and he was straight into asking the question of how much i owed and who with? then when i said did i ask you to ring me i was told about the data protection act?!
it seems to me a bit of a scam so dont trust them unless u get them check out that they are registered lenders!
what worries me is that they know my name my home phone number and they know i owe money!!

I have received calls for this company over the last 2 weeks. I have asked them not to call me and told them that I was registered with the TPS Service. They called me again this evening, just home from a !!!! day at work so you guess what the call was like.

I asked for a telephone number to return the call - Its under construction he said. I told him I work in Telecoms and a number can not be under construction.

I asked hime for a website address - Again it was under construction, but I was unable to find any via search engines.

He was more than happy to provide me with their registered address, which I checked online when he give it to me and not registered with the Royal Mail. When questioned about this he moved onto telling me how they can help.

I was speaking with a Supervisor (Apparently). I had gave him quick run down of UK laws. I told him that I know they are using a Ghost number shown on CLI (Caller Display). I told him he in breach of the TPS Laws and Privacy laws as I have asked them not to call me.

He did apologise, I asked nicely was he going to call again. He said yes with my consent. I informed him that I did not offer it. He apologised again and I asked the question. He said no and the call was ended.

I have now reported the above, along with some helpful info of this tread to the TPS complaints team and also the ICO for them to find and either remove this companies leicence for trading or fine them for calling me.

I will update you all after I hear back.....:mad:

This company are very persistant and change their story each time they ring. When I asked them to remove my details from the database, I had a barrage of abuse down the line. Subsequently to stop them from ringing I threatened them with legal action on the grounds of harrassment and guess what - never heard from them again!

Just had my 3rd call from these people offereing me an IVA I do not need or want one and I have no idea where they go my number as I'm ex-directory. When I asked them they told me I was on a commercially available database. Again the only info he would give was that they were based in Leicester. I am also a TPS member and have reported them to both them and trading standards.

After a bit more searching I found this:

So it would seem that the company is run by a couple of crooks.

http://www.capitalfinance.uk.com/ is is a trading name of City Credit Management Limited so this is probably another company to avoid
