ABBEY Overdraft charges - Check this months statements!

I'm writing a letter to Abbey as I was charged for going overdrawn - which I had been - but they didn't send me my statement until a week before the charges were due to be deducted. This isn't adequate notice, and as I was unemployed at the time it really messed up my finances as I didn't have time to plan. I phoned the call-centre and they told em they could do nothing about it as I'd had a charge reversed four months earlier when I broke my foot and couldn't manage my account so easily. I'd been told in the past that bank charges are taken off with a month's notice so a week is a complete joke. I would change banks if I didn't have my overdraft to pay off first! Thankfully I've got a new job now so I can start doing this.0

I've also been incorrectly charged by Abbey for the last two months - 72p and 74p respectively. Not a huge amount but it's the principle. If I'm working hard to keep my account in credit how dare they charge me for being overdrawn when I'm not!
The first time the money was reimbursed within one day, and the correct credit interest I'd earned was paid the following. However this time it's been over 2 weeks since I contacted them about their error, and I called yesterday to be told that "it looks like someone's forgotten to chase it up". I have warned them that if it's not in my account by Friday it's a letter to the Financial Ombudsman and a new bank account for me :mad:0 -
The same thing has happened to me this am. Told on the 1st September I will be charged 54p for being overdrawn when i haven't been. This is the 3rd month this has happened.
I phoned and was told that I would have to let the charge go out of my account on 1 september and it will be refunded 10 days later...yeah right i don't think so...after 15 mins of arguing they finally agreed to not charge at all.
I'm feeling a change of bank coming on.0 -
I complained in writing and had a standard 'we are sorry you're not happy, your complaint will be dealt with in 28 days blah blah blah' but I've already opened a new account and started to transfer everything. Too many mistakes for my liking, and they just do not seem to care.
I also bank with A+L and just hope they don't go downhill as rapidly when now they're part of Santander too...0 -
They've done me for £0.13, £0.72 and £1.46 in separate months when I've not been overdrawn. They failed to send me a letter when I closed my credit card account with them, my last statement failed to turn up and £400 went missing from my mortgage for two weeks. The name ShAbbey seems inappropriate for their level of incompetence! I suggest all you A&L customers move your accounts now while you still have the chance.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0

haven't recieved any think like that (yet)..
but i'm gonna be charged about 60 quid for been overdrawn by mistake of orange.. they took direct debit when they shouldn be taken it....
Go to your bank and ask for a direct debit indemnity form. The bank should you give you your money back within 48 hours (I think that's timescale) and then they should look to reclaim the money from Orange. This is part of the direct debit guarantee and all the major banks operate in line with this. Hope this helps0 -
I've just had the same problem again this month (Sept 2008). This is the second time this has happened.
This seems to be a regular occurrence with abbey. They must be making tonnes from people who don't bother to check their statements.0
