    I'm actually talking about Abbey charging overdraft fees when my account has not been in the red.

    They have already admitted technical issues but they have done this to me 4 times now.
  • Like many others here, I have been charged by Abbey "Advance overdraft interest" every month since February when i have never actually been overdrawn.

    I have rung them atleast 6 times and been told mainly that it was a system error and many people have been charged. They said they would refund the charges...

    My first call was at the beginning of March, the second one was april before the date the charges would be taken and the lady i spoke to said this would not leave my account now...however, the interest was still taken...

    On one occasion I was on the phone to a lady in India for almost 30 minutes and then she cut me-off!

    No money has come back on to my account.

    I even emailed them and received a reply saying tit had been forwarded to the correct department and they would get back to me shortly..that was a month ago.

    Has anyone actually had their charges refunded? If so;
    Can someone give me the address of where to write to? Is it the normal "Customer Services" address?

    Abbey customer services really suck.

    i have just had to ring up about this - £50 of charges made for no reason at all, they even confirmed i hadnt gone over my limit at any point

    this is shocking, this is the second time abbey have some something ive considered completely wrong for a BANK to do to it's customer

    we should kick up a fuss really

    if an "error" has caused charges like this then they need to monitor their accounts better. They cant simply take XXX of any customer they please, then if the customer notices tell them it was an accident (which of course they wouldnt have got back if not)

    exactly what sort of major banking system simply takes money from people's accounts for no reason due to an "error"? thats quite a money making error abbey have managed to develop for themselves

    My advice, do not ring them up, waste of time.

    Write to this address:

    Also, send your info to BBC Watchdog, the more that do the more chance they will pick this up:

    Having encountered this problem with Abbey this week when querying the amount of interest being levied on my joint account. This account is shared with my husband but we separated in October and agreed to pay it off at £100 each every month. The balance is reducing but bizarrely the interest is going up. Having queried this on the phone and asking for a written breakdown a month ago, surrprise surprise nothing materialised.:eek:

    I rang this week to find out why my complaint hasnt been acknowledged, I was informed of the 'system error' which is apparently affecting thousands of accounts. I was also told once the issue was rectifed I would receive a credit to my account. I was passed over to telephone banking after spending 45 mins on the phone only to be told that that who I had spoken to before had been misinformed, and that this issue was only affecting a few accounts that were in credit, not any in overdraft.:mad:

    Now I am completely confused and fed up with Abbey. I have had to make 2 complaints in the last month about their shoddy service. The upshot is I faxed over a very strongly worded letter of complaint and sent the same by hard copy. As far as I am concerned if the balance of my account is reducing, then so should the amount of interest being charged, it shouldn't be going up.

    Anyone else experiencing this ?:confused::confused:
