So what's the £450.Do you mean they pay that or tell the bank to pay that if your complaint is upheld ?

TBH i'd rather have a service where I didn't need to complain so often/at all and they did what they were supoosed to do. Maybe that's asking too much in todays banking world ?
It's all very well receiving these offers of goodwill, but my introductory 12 months of 8% interest on their current account will be up next month so I'll be saying farewell and good riddance to ShAbbey, but not before I've got hold of their new Zero card to stooze for a little longer without a BT fee !

I got my latest Abbey statement this morning and noticed a box on it which I don't remember seeing before . BUT
Checking back old statements it did say something similar but now seems to have changed the wording (+ larger print) to say that "If the transaction was at point of sale an Overseas Transaction Fee of £1.25 per transaction is included. These charges are as stated in our Terms and Conditions"
What do they mean by "At Point of Sale" Do they mean if you buy stuff in a shop and not online ?.
It's all a ripoff anyway .Transactions are carried out electronically so any costs must be negligible.

So please to find this thread!

Opened my Abbey statement today, found a charge of 7p (!) for being overdrawn. I have NEVER been overdrawn on my account and was incensed!

After a 32 minute conversation while they told me "There's been a glitch in the computer this month, I'll erase the charge", I explained that this response was inadequate.

I asked for recompense for the phone call I had to make, my time (over half an hour), and compensation which would convince me that this was a one-off mistake, not a determined effort by my bank to steal money from its millions of customers and regain my trust in their integrity.

They intially offered me the cost of my phone call, if I sent them a copy of my phone bill. I asked if they were joking, then asked to be put through to their complaints centre.

Finally, after 32 minutes, the charge was deducted and I was offered a £10.00 gesture of goodwill.

Maybe if every customer checked and demanded this, it wouldn't be worth Abbey's while trying to fleece us in the first place?

Like many others here, I have been charged by Abbey "Advance overdraft interest" every month since February when i have never actually been overdrawn.

I have rung them atleast 6 times and been told mainly that it was a system error and many people have been charged. They said they would refund the charges...

My first call was at the beginning of March, the second one was april before the date the charges would be taken and the lady i spoke to said this would not leave my account now...however, the interest was still taken...

On one occasion I was on the phone to a lady in India for almost 30 minutes and then she cut me-off!

No money has come back on to my account.

I even emailed them and received a reply saying tit had been forwarded to the correct department and they would get back to me shortly..that was a month ago.

    Has anyone actually had their charges refunded? If so;
Can someone give me the address of where to write to? Is it the normal "Customer Services" address?

    Abbey customer services really suck.

I've had the same problem as you. I opened a basic account with Abbey 7 years ago. I was told that the account is not allowed to have an overdraft facility, and I was fine with that.

I never had any problems with them until they got taken over by that Santander Group. I went over about 2.00GBP last year December, which was sorted out, and my account never went red since. They started charging me from my March statement. I got the same excuse over and over. I had to get my husband involved as he deals with customer complaints himself, but seemed like Abbey didn't even listen to him. Ended up writing a complaint letter to them, which I haven't heard anything from YET! This went on for another month, and went through the same motions only to be told the same thing AGAIN! They told me off for not watching what goes in and out of my account, even though I told them firsthand that I keep really close track of the money that goes out of my account!

Surprisingly, I didn't get any overdraft interest charges on last month's bank statement. I thought that was the end of it, but alas it wasn't meant to be. I found another charge for 1p to be taken out a week from today. I know it's not a lot of money, unlike from what I have read and seen on here, but it does add up. I am a stay-at-home mum with two young children, so I have to keep a very close watch on what goes out of my account. I am seriously thinking of transferring my account somewhere else. Has anyone done this yet?

I heard that they will merge Abbey with Alliance & Leicester
  • I've had my £81 (!!) refunded and an extra £10 for the inconvenience. I wrote to: Complaints, Abbey, PO Box 5129, Milton Keynes MK9 2YN, threatening to go to the Financial Ombudsman. Hope this helps.
  • I will post another complaint to them first thing tomorrow morning! Thank you for posting the address where to send it to! :T I do hope they will do something about it this time!

Just an update to my previous posts.... I have had two outstanding complaints with Abbey, one was miscalcuation of interest and I have been awarded £55 in compensation and to ward off this happening again, I have transferred the outstanding overdraft onto a Virgin CC, interest free for 3 months.

Second Abbey Complaint was where I wrote in asking for a copy of my credit card charges but got back a copy of MY SON's BANK ACCOUNT TRANSACTIONS
We are not linked in anyway at all and Abbey still do not not how this happened. Even the letter they sent out was addressed to Mrs K and Mr A..... even though we do not have a joint account.

He was awarded £30 comp and get this..... I got £100 !!

It shouldn't have happened in the first place and I have been an account holder for 25 years and I am thoroughly disappointed in how their standards have slipped since being taken over by Santander.

Good luck to all those still fighting for a resolution.
