What is tesco's policy for coupons? New to this site and can't understand the idea of using vouchers for items that I haven't even purchased. Can anyone explain to me, please?:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

I once had a go at a bloke ahead of me in ASDA who was taking an age to pay for about £50 of shopping with coupons and a £10 note.
I would welcome all supermarkets changing their policy.
If they stopped taking coupons who would you get to pick on when you go shopping next.
What do you mean you once had a go at someone for using coupons? who died and made you checkout Sherrif then? what if someone in front of you had paid in Tesco gift vouchers is that ok or would you take them to one side and advise them to check behind them before submitting them as you aren't prepared to tolerate such nonsense in YOUR queue.
Each customer is entitled to service whether they pay by cash cheque card or coupons or even smartie tube lids for that matter, what makes you so important you feel the right to accost other customer just because you don't agree with their chosen payment method, personally I would have offered him some of my coupons if he was a tenner short and congratulated him on the achievement of gathering the £40, but then again I consider myself a true moneysaver and will save at every opportunity I can so long as it is legal.
PS. I definately wouldn't recommend you "have a go" at me if ever I pop up in the queue before you, and yes I do exchange coupons at Asda on a regular basis.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
Tesco Head Office policy is that they will accept one of each coupon you present providing they sell the product, it is not store specific ((ie it is not distributed by a competitor such as Sainsbury) it is within its valid redemption date and of course not altered or mutilated in any way.
However there is a whole thread in the discussions forum on Tesco coupons as the various store managers and supervisors tend to make up the policy as they go along contrary to their head office wishes.

All three of the above threads will help you to understand the coupon redemption habits of others and you can make a decision as to whether or not it is a suitable way for you to save money as it can have its drawbacks at times.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
I do think we need to be sensible with coupons in case we kill the goose that lays the golden egg. I remember a time i could use about a fivers worth of coupons against a £25 - £30 shop, but now they insist on the 10% rule. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thank you for your email.
Any coupons, which display the Tesco logo, are Tesco specific. We only accept these if the products referred to on the coupons are purchased. This is because we negotiate savings with our suppliers on the condition that these actual products will be purchased.
With regard to coupons from brand name manufacturers, we are happy to accept one, even if you have not purchased the product. The coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the item. If you present more than one identical coupon, then you must purchase the same number of products.
This also applies to coupons printed from the Internet. These will only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain our policy.
If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us at customer.service@tesco.co.uk quoting TES1057804X.

Try replying to that and ask if you could use vouchers to pay for an entire shop. A different user did that but I can't find the thread
They replied to her saying that she could indeed use vouchers against all her shopping. No mention of this 10% thing...

True, but how are you going to convice the bolshy manager/supervisor when your stuff has been scanned and theres about 8 other customers with trolleys behind you? Yes, the ideal situation would be that you stand there and battle it out with them but the other customers wont thank you and at the end of the day i doubt if you will change his/her mind. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To answer your question I frequently do with the aid of documentation from their head office, as for the 8 or so customers that may be behind me I have several ways of viewing and dealing with them, should they be critical I would merely tell them to mind their own busines and keep there noses out of my transaction unless they are prepared to allow me to interfere in thiers and perhaps scrutinise their payment method for my own approval, if as I find in most cases they are gobsmacked at what is unfolding before their eyes I thank them for their patience whilst Tesco staff are bickering between themselves and once my transaction is fulfilled I generally like to pass out some coupons to the remainder of the queue as compensation for their inconvenience, (this also serves to deter future repetition of such a challenge) bear in mind there are many tills in each supermarket you can always go to another if you find yourself caught behind me educating staff as to their own companies policy and I see nothing wrong in gaining a reward for doing so they must have saved a fortune in staff training.

Don't be too fixated on the managers part in the refusals either many are driven by checkout operators, supervisors etc, you can usually judge the situation by the way the senior member of staff is greeted by the summoner, such as "we are not allowed to take these are we?" this person is trying to give the message to the listener (I have refused these please back me up) If the question was of a genuine nature you would expect to hear something like "are we allowed to take these?" other terms that may crop up is "I know we used to be able to do this but the policy changed in 1066 etc" "I've been told" "I remember hearing somewhere" "If I take them all there won't be anything to pay!" "this is the second time this person has been in this week I thought it was only once a week" all of these give the signal to the listener in how the questioner would like to hear their response, we all do it when we want to get our own way without necessarily being aware of it at the time, paying attention to the way staff communicate the situation can prepare you with for the response and how to deal with it.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0
