Help!
Can someone please please help me!?
I often use coupons with no problems at all. Over the years I have always gone to checkouts where people serve you. I know this might sound like a strange statement but over the last month or two, I've been going to the self-service checkouts. Again, Ive been using coupons with no problems.
Sometimes I would buy £10 of goods and use £9 of coupons! No-one said anything!
About three weeks ago, while using a self-service checkout, I was approached by a customer service manager who told me that if I wasnt actually buying the product, I could use only one coupon. One coupon in total and not one per manufacturer. I told her I did not realise this because when you ask checkout people they all seem to say something different!
I came home and emailed Tesco customer service. The reply I got was that if I wasnt buying the product, I could use one coupon PER manufacturer and that internet coupons (which I dont use) were at the discretion of the manager.
After receiving this email, I have been back a few times (same store) but gone through ordinary checkouts (with real people!). Each time I have asked if I can use coupons and each time they have said yes and just scanned away.
TODAY... I was going through the checkout....I asked the girl if I could use coupons...I told her that I had bought some things but mainly I hadnt. She told me that as long as there weren't more than one of the same coupon, it was fine.
She's scanning away and a security man and the cs manager, who spoke to me a few weeks ago, came up to me and told me that I had to go into the office!
They took me in....I was too gobsmacked to say anything! They told me that I was abusing their policy, obtaining goods by deception(!) and that I am banned from ever going there again! This is only the second time I've spoken to a manager! They said that its a private building and if I ever go there again, I would be trespassing and they would phone the police!!!!!!
I thought they were going to arrest me!
They asked for my name (I refused), then they asked for my clubcard( still refused) and then the security man stood up and I really felt intimidated. They would not let me leave until I gave the card!!!!
I feel so humiliated I cannot believe it!
My goods were about £26 and my coupons came to probably £20. I know its a lot but I did not have any "double" coupons at all.
I've telephoned customer services who said that they would phone me back but she said something about it being a store issue.
I am an honest person just trying to save some money by following their own coupon policy to the letter of the email I received.

Gosh, this is awful. You must be devastated being made to feel like a criminal just for doing something that their Head Office sanctions in the first place.
I regularly go into my local Tesco and hand over a wodge of coupons. I just say 'I have some coupons here, can you scan them to see which ones you can take, please?'. Sometimes they take a few, sometimes loads. There doesn't seem to be any consistent policy.
I do hope someone on here can help you or make a suggestion.

Why bargain?
Igloo, you appear to have been treated terribly. You were asked not to use too many vouchers, so started to use a manned checkout, where it is up to the cashier to accept or decline the vouchers. As for the heavy handed approach afterwards, how dare anyone bar you from leaving the premises! At the very least you need to complain in writing to the most senior manager of tesco, about the distress caused to you by this intimidation and false imprisonment! If it was me, I would have felt very afraid, and reported the matter to the police.*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***
If I don't reply to you, I haven't looked back at the thread.....PM me0 -
I am sorry0

i got say why were you using that much in coupons anyway, it a bit too much really getting £26 in shopping and using £20 in coupons ok if you bought the product thou.
i thought it was only 10% of the shopping, unless you are buying the thing on the coupon.
they should have not done that to you, maybe just said we can only take the coupons that you bought0 -
agree completely mickydes, and the tills should be programmed to accept only coupons where the product is bought, or up to a certain amount.*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***

I did feel very afraid!
I also had my two children with me ( age 6 and 4).

think there's a thread somewhere - the great 'letters that work' hunt, or something. sure there are links on there to other sites which help you to construct a letter, incl. complaints.
Anyone else remember what i'm talking about? Anyone good at links!!?*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***
