AOL trouble (merged)

Don't expect to get any sense out of the Indian call centres. At the beginning of the CPW network swtichover I was told by an Indian Lady at the call centre "Contact Microsoft or get an engineer out and everything will be lovely, Lee". She blamed my troubles on Microsoft as I could access websites using the aol browser but not IE. I phoned back a few days later and spoke to somebody different. They told me it was a line speed issue and all would be "lovely" again in a few days once the speed of the line could be estalished from BT. Again, I took this to be true and then had severe connection troubles to AOL using their own browser and IE. I also had connection drops and it was really getting bad. I phoned back and they told me something different again. This time round they told me it was an AOL rpoblem and they were working on it. I am now using open DNS settings and I still have pages freezing and the odd connection drop a few times daily. I have reported aol to watchdog several times and had an interview with the BBC ove rthe phone giving my whole story. I just don't know what to do as I am still in contract. Surely they are breaking their side of the contract by this awful service.

really upset with aol now.
like most people on here i too have been having dis-connected problems since the end of january. it disconnects then reconnects by itself either every 5 minutes or if am lycky it can stay on for half an hour. have rang many times, tried many things and they sent me aol 9.vr. was assured every time that it would be sorted and i wouldnt be diconnected any more.!
they said one time it was a problem with the outside line, then it wasnt, they sent out "broadband engineer" to check my line which was fine. phoned up last wed night to cancel and was offered a free wireless router which they say is worth £75. they are gonna take the 75 out of my account but to balance out would have no monthly 9.99 to pay forjust over 7 months, so i say yes, ok. 7 days on still no router, just got letter from them saying they accept my offer to enter into a new contract for 18 months. at no point in that call did he mention contract.
just phoned india to tell her not happy for 18 month contract and it wasnt mentioned in call last week and also to see where the router is, she says shes gonna ring me back after she has checked with the other department. wont hold my breath.
i am so frustrated and feel like crying, just seem to get nowhere with aol. also on the letter it says i have a cooling off period of 7 working days concerning the contract, which like i say never agreed to. Do i take it from the date of this letter, which is the 10th, or from the phone call on wed the 5th? if so today is the 7th day then i need to cancel today dont i? can anyone advise me cos so peed off. thanks. xxJust to win anything would be great!!0 -
I couldnt get online this morning phoned aol, indian guy was unless. He told me to click links that were not there, and after 1/2 hour of doing this and that he said that i needed to uninstall and then reinstall. couldnt be bothered so i left it another 1/2 hour tried again and then it worked fine????
Also i explained to him that i wasnt the account holder but he kept on calling me by his name. Its driving me mad were paying 17.50 a month, have 2.2mbps and it only connects when it wants. Should i phone them and see if i can get a discount or just change suppliers?0 -
tell them your not happy with it, they might offer you a lower price, i pay 9.99 a month for unlimited downloads (when working). 17.50 seems a lot to me but its all a minefield for me. all i no is i am being fobbed off when i ring them.
i would ring them if i were you, if you havent got a contract they will probably offer you something to stay. xxJust to win anything would be great!!0 -
Thanks lab-lover, we have not got a contract but do i want to get tied into another one?0

this is it, if your having trouble then is it worth it? i certainly dont want an 18 month contract with them, still waiting for them to ring back, so fed up with them, have heard its a load of hassle to switch supplier. dont no what to do.
phone number is 0844-499-555. option 3, i think, for canceling, they will try and talk you out of it. xJust to win anything would be great!!0
