I go to Aldi all the time, but have noticed in the past few weeks several items going up by around 30p.Has anyone else noticed this?It is still brilliant and cheap but not as cheap as it was:o"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

First shop of the month and I spent £9.11 in Tesco. I'm constantly surprised at what tesco value stuff I find! I found tuna chunks for 29p today and that was only because another shopper was putting them in her trolley.
Does anyone keep a spreadsheet of their grocery spending? I've been noting the totals on a spreadsheet, but was thinking about breaking it down further. What does everyone else do?0 -
Hi all. I've just spent the last hour ploughing through all the pages I've missed over the last few days.
Welcome to all the newcomers and congratulations on the new job M.
Somebody asked the question if Twinks hobnobs and some other cake type things can be frozen. Well I'm no expert but I FREEZE EVERYTHING!!! I batch cook the Hobnobs and just take out 4 at a time for the packed lunches and they are fine.
Funny how we have different names for things around the country. Down here in Devon we call round bread "rolls" but flatter ones are "baps"!!!!:rotfl:
Only had to buy some milk today but can't remember how much it was so will update signature next time.
I think I've got enough in the freezer for nearly 3 weeks of meals so feeling quite confident until I realised that it's only the 3rd of the month!!!
Good luck all I'm off to bed to read my book "PS I Love You".

Just to add to the barm cake debate, where my OH comes from they have large ones called stotty cakes. I have always called them buns or barm cakes, and in our local mr ts they are baps as well as buns. very confusing. I have also heard them called teacakes, but i alwys think of the little chocolate covered ones.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
Well, I had 2 NSD's at the weekend, but only spent £3.79 today on crisps and toothpaste from poundland and bananas from m&s (nearest store at the time). I'm updating my sig as you read this
. I've stuck to my diet (only day 3 but that's when most fail) and haven't weighed myself since Saturday. I'm terrible for that, normally at least 3 times a day - as if I'll suddenly lose a stone within a few hours  .
I've got some silicone cupcake cases coming tomorrow from Betterware, so I'll be able to make lots of cakes for lunch boxes and not waste paper. :T
I'm a bit annoyed as my recycling hasn't been collected in over 4 weeks and when I ring the council up they say "because of the strike they're a bit behind but are catching up" The strike was for 2 days and was weeks ago. Hubby saw the truck in the next street to us today. !!!!!!???!!!

 Hiya Mark,
Don't be embarrassed!

PPS What was that programme with Patrick McGoohan bellowing "I am not a number! I am a free man!?"
That was the prisoner - god bless it, and anyone who understood it.
OK I do most of my shopping by Tesco.com, as we although have most supermarkets where we live they are all small versions, so that i sthe cheapest without going 30 miles in one direction or other (Swindon ASDA is prob the nearest).
Is there a cheaper on line grocery? I don't rate sainsbury's and I guess Waitrose is ouchily expensive!!I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

I had my groceries delivered by Asda today, no heavy lifting, or lugging of H's horribly heavy coke! Plus the fabric conditioner came slightly leaking so one phone call later and I got a refund for it. I worked out I spent just about as much as I would have done going to the market, Nettos and still having to pop to Asda for stuff the other places don't do. So saves time. Thanks to a mother's day gift of slow cooker books, our menu is as follows:
Fish in white wine
Pork in creamy mustard sauce
gingered chickpeas and lime rice
spanish chicken pot
HM spag bol with HM garlic bread
beef stew and horseradish dumplings
cheese sausages & veg (or stirfry if I can't persuade OH)
All done in the slow cooker! I loooove my slow cooker. Plus our oven is so temperamental it's the only way to guarantee the dinner isn;t burnt. Something that takes an hour is done and usually blackened in 35 minutes and that's at a lower temp than needed.
Just got to pick p fish tomorrow, I always try to buy on the day, and as I have a 20% off voucher for a fish shop on th docks might use a chunk of th £25 I have left this week to fill up on some other fish for future. Looking very hopeful that the £50 budget will be more than sufficient, and will most likely result in a fair few frozen portions. The idea ia that every so often we'll be able to do a 'freezer week' with what's there and put a chunk of that weeks grocery budget into the saving account!
Hope everyone else is doing well and resisting any trolleyfillers! This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!
Current Pay Off Target : £1500 :mad:0 -
I would love to be close enough to a dock to get fish that fresh!
We don't even have a fishmonger anymore round here so it's all supermarket stuff.
I asked DH if he went to Asda on Sunday and he said no we already had the sprouts in so that's good!
We had fish pie last night and I made 2 so there's a big one for tea when MiL coomes round on Wednesday. I also put all the peas in the ham stock and am trying to make a soup with it. It's in the slow cooker now. I think it may be a little salty so may be wanting advice tomorrow!
I'd like the recipe for glamorgan sausages please if you wouldn't mind posting it saving for travel.
OberonSH I think I "need" the recipes for pork in creamy mustard sauce, horseradish dumplings or the name of the book they were in please!
(Obviously I know you are ever so busy with your little bundles so only if you get a chance!)
I made DD's sausage rolls and I made 2 loaves of bread yesterday. Both were flat. I was in a tearing hurry and couldn't quite remeber this morning whether the recipe was bang on- it was but I always use boiling water because it's so cold in my utility. The second loaf is because I was experimenting with nuts and seeds and porridge mixed with white and brown flour. It's ok though because if anyone should break in tonight while I'm at work DH will be able to protect the children with it! (I think I'll just have it thinly sliced and toasted!)
