Soft white floury baps recipe -unless you are in my house then they are "pappy cobs":p- 1/2 cup tepid water
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2tbs butter -melted and cooled
- 1tsp sugar
- 1/2tsp salt
- 3 cups bread flour
- 1/2tsp yeast -I use fresh so it would be 14g
- Place into your machine in the order according to your instructions and set to "dough
- turn on to a lightly floured surface and knead briefly
- roll into a sausage and cut into 8 equal pieces
- gently roll out each disk until approx 1/2 thick and 5" across place on a baking sheet
- through a sieve dust the tops with a little flour
- cover with clingfilm and leave to rise -don't put anywhere to warm as the texture is better if allowed to rise long n slow
- when almost doubled , a pre-heat a oven -200c/400f/gas6
- remove cling film and sieve a little more flour over
- bake for 15 mins or until they are golden at the edges and have cooked through
- transfer onto a cookling rack and cover with a tea towel and leave to cool
Thanks for yet another great recipe, along with MRs M and all the other recipe contributers i have built up a good range of recipes which i keep in a ring binder in my kitchen, all for free.

I just made Hobnobs!!! I love baking but it is funny, however many recipes you get under your belt, there is still the same thrill when a new one goes well! (Or am I a baking nerd??!!!)
Thank you Twinks, and everyone else who has mentioned (ahem, every 5 minutes) the recipe on here till my curiosity got the better of me. My DS and DD thank you too - but my waistline does not!0 -
That stuffing recipe sounds lovely, MrsMc - will be adding that to my growing list.
Have to add an extra £3.85 to my spends total as OH and I shared some fish and chips tonight. Really went against the grain to spend that much money on one single dinner but it was a lovely treat and, even tho I only snaffled a few chips and a 1/3 of the fish, I really enjoyed it.
All this baking going on shames me and I must get cracking tomorrow. Did make iced finger buns today tho. :rolleyes:AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Hi mumofjusttwo!
Welcome to this great thread. This is my first month in the food challenge. In my food budget I include food, cleaning material, bodylotions, soaps etc but not cosmetics and also my mobile top up (which usually is £10).
Good luck with your food challenge.

I think the point is, you're competing with yourself, to get your spending down or under control - not with other people - as we all have different lives, different tastes and different budgets. So it is a case of what you feel comfortable - set your own rules, and stick to them!
Mine includes cleaning stuff (not that I buy much of that - arf!) loo rolls and light bulbs etc - but not clothes, and not cosmetics or shampoo.0 -

For some strange reason ALDI only have 405 or the bread mixes inbut i was so excited by my bag of Maismehl in "Real" i virtually skipped to the checkout
i have forgotten now but there was a bag of flour that was even more yellow it was with the Maismehl in the "foreign" section... think it could have been polenta flour.... i only want some because its such a pretty colour ...i am sad i know :rotfl: - i will find some uses for it before i buy any... think i have a recipe for pastry using it -although i may just be clutching at straws in my desperation to buy some
I will have a look next time i go to jibi, ratio, or a martkhauf and see if there flour is any cheaper -thankyou
Don't know what im going to do when hubbies time out here is done - i will be running up n down the aisles like a loony...stockpiling like a mad woman - the selection of baking goods out here is just mind blowing.... i could spen an hour just looking in the baking aisle.... i really need to get a life don't i
thankyou once again for your help...im sure i will be back when my next quandry arrives
Hi MrsM
I do know, what you mean about the baking aisle. I miss it too.
I hardly do any baking, as we don't eat much sweet. I am actually the worst offender.....
Whereever we going to end up, when hubby is finished, we for sure will be once a year in the uk/ germany. so maybe we have to do some bulk shopping, once for ourself and one for you`????:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I am sure we will find a solution.I wish Germany had a website like moneysavingexpert!0 -
Thank you for your warm welcomes and how you do your rocery Challenge.
Well i am in. I am going to set a budget of £200 for the month. I have been trying to budget for the last month or so but need a little more incentive and, as always, MSE seems to be a great place to start.January Grocery 11/3740 -
