Soft white floury baps recipe -unless you are in my house then they are "pappy cobs":p
    1. 1/2 cup tepid water
    2. 1/2 cup warm milk
    3. 2tbs butter -melted and cooled
    4. 1tsp sugar
    5. 1/2tsp salt
    6. 3 cups bread flour
    7. 1/2tsp yeast -I use fresh so it would be 14g
    • Place into your machine in the order according to your instructions and set to "dough"
    • turn on to a lightly floured surface and knead briefly
    • roll into a sausage and cut into 8 equal pieces
    • gently roll out each disk until approx 1/2 thick and 5" across place on a baking sheet
    • through a sieve dust the tops with a little flour
    • cover with clingfilm and leave to rise -don't put anywhere to warm as the texture is better if allowed to rise long n slow
    • when almost doubled , a pre-heat a oven -200c/400f/gas6
    • remove cling film and sieve a little more flour over
    • bake for 15 mins or until they are golden at the edges and have cooked through

I am a bit late giving my new target for March as I have had a few days away with a friend. Spending came out of my holiday budget!

There are now five of us living here, all adults and only one working so we have set a budget of £10 per week each or £200 per month. I spent £66.47 in Tesco on Saturday and £34.64 on Friday so it doesn't seem like a good start to the month. We do now have enough loo rolls washing powder etc for the month and just have to hope that we can eek out the fresh food shopping.

I have to take our old dog to the vets later (she is 14 and no one noticed she was out of sorts while I was away). I will have to break into my emergency money.
business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Afternoon all! Well I got some free shopping at the weekend, courtesy of a Sainsburys voucher from ToLuna and OH buying the rest! :D So no addition to my total but the following additions to my cupboard/ fridge...

Two packs chicken breasts on special offer 2 for £6 (400g each)
Bottle of very nice Chilean Sauvignon Blanc
Pack of nectarines (I don't know why I bought these, they're far too early and taste of nothing)

I've used one of the packs of chicken so far and made 5 meals out of it (4 portions of risotto and one chicken & veg curry - should probably have been 2 portions of curry but I was hungry :rotfl:).

    Free food, can't complain!!

    Hi,
Just a quick update on the March proceedings so far.....

Spent £8.99 in Lidl on saturday on Diet Pepsi cans (25 for £5 - they're 60p each in work and I buy at least 2 a day out of the vending machine -so it may seem like a lot but its actually a saving!) and flowers.
Then a Sainsburys delivery arrived on Sunday for £29.61.
This will see me through to around Good Friday (with store cupboard and freezer stuff).
I will have to spend about £8 this week on Mexican ingredients - have promised boyfriend that I'll do nachos, fajitas and all of the trimmings on Wednesday so will have to give in and spend a bit more.:o

So total so far is £38.60 (£100 budget) with the Mexican shopping to come.....

    Good luck to everyone else!

I'm back, if a bit ashamed! I blew the Feb challenge out of the water...not sure how we managed it!

Mrs M please put me down for £400 for this month (22/2 to 22/03).

I have just posted on the Feb thread, and still didn't get it all read...this will take me ages to catch up on. Posting now and will catch up later.

    Hope everyone is managing ok.

I have to have a complete rethink to try and keep in budget this month: did a BIG shop at Lidl and then Mr T on the 22nd and have had only a few smaller trips (including stuff for DS2's 15th birthday bash) since then...perhaps we will manage it this month! Must complete this week menu list...almost done, but thought I'd bettter post before I chickened out and gave up on the GC.

Now off to walk the dog since the hailstones have stopped! It's lovely and white out there..the dog will love it!

Will drop in after next spend (tonight?!)

Right I know this question isnt really GC stuff, well, in a way it is, cos ive done the Home Baking to try to save money.

Anyway, ive baked a Bakewell Tart, Gingerbread, Flapjacks, and Twinks hob nobs today. Can I freeze these. I have to do something to try to bring down my grocery budget where sweet stuff is concerned especially for the kids.
