Yes, I made it to the end of this thread at last! I arrived home from work at 10.15 tonight (last night) and picked it up again at page 43. Can't believe I've read 30 pages in nearly 3 hours - gosh it moves so fast.

I also made MrsM's tortillas for dinner on Friday and they were fab. No complaints at all around the table so gonna make more of those this week. I reckon they cost about 40-50p for 8 so a great saving there.

Mr and DD, aged 4, made Twinks Hobnobs today for the first time. Have made little batches for DS and DD packed lunches in the freezer.

Thanks to everybody who contributes recipes as it helps give ideas for a bit of variety in the menu plans.

Night night to anyone who's still here at this hour.

Ok, I'm over budget from today (yesterday). DH went shopping (again) and bought stuff? and tobacco. That came to £10.66. He also bought some trainers for work (£10ish I think).
As I don't know how much they were I'll not be able to see untill it shows up on internet banking.
My plan now is to just deduct any overspends from my new April budget so that we can get back on track. I still have stuff in the freezer and my baking cupboard is pretty well stocked at the moment. I'm going to make twinks hobnobs and some other stuff on Wednesday so that we have nibbles in for Easter.
I was thinking about this, when we have people over for coffee we rarely offer them biscuits. None of our friends do- do you think it's cause we're tight?

Hello everyone. My March budget is £100, but I've already spent £102. I have one more shopping weekend before pay day, then it all starts again for April. However, I'm quite chuffed that I've kept so close to the budget so far this month. Normally I've gone over by double.

    (I've been lurking - again.)

Must go now as the Pullit is going off.

    Love the FM

I see the "mad as a box of frogs" status is still alive and kicking then FM ??:D

And yes...:o What is Pullit ??
Is it something us quiet angelic Scottish lasses will know anything about ? :D

I got a text off a friend of mine yesterday...
I work near an Asda, but we dont live near one.
The text asked me to pick up some cream eggs that are on offer in Asda... The boxes of 12 are currently £2... she asked me to get 2 boxes.
Asda did not have any of the boxes of 12... or indeed the boxes of 6 (which were £1)... but they did have the boxes of 3...for 50p.
So I called my friend .. and she asked that I just get the 24 cream eggs in multiples of 3 instead ............
So 9 boxes duly bought  :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have been keeping up with the thread... and I am no where near over budget  ... but I do need to do some number crunching to see what the actual damage is. (Plus 50p ;) )

That took me a bit of working out there!
Does anyone have a link to the thread that discussed making your own cheese? I'd be most grateful.

    Morning everyone,

Well didn't get to make the cheesecake yesterday, I may make it tomorrow instead. However DD3 had an open day at cadets yesterday and came back with a tin full of HM cakes that were left over on the cake stall (bless) and apples, oranges and lemons that they'd used for the human fruit machine game ( ) so that's saved a bit of money and time ;)

and thought I'd share (nothing to do with grocery challenge but I am a bit pleased with myself) that I got 2 really nice dining chairs for nothing from a lady who's just moved in down the road and was throwing them out:j .

Could someone be really nice and post a link to Mrs M's tortilla recipe, thought I'd copied it but I haven't and now I can't find it:( and wanted to try it out this week.

    Thanks,

icandream - I slice my bread and then freeze it in plastic bags. It shouldn't go soggy if you defrost a few slices removed from the bag at a time. If it does go soggy... that's the stuff you tell everyone is meant to be like that because it's to be used for toast or bread & butter pudding ;)

Big thanks: I'll do that now.

  • morning all ,
well took me one and a half hours to catch up with alll the pages last night, but dont like to miss anything.!
Had a really naughty week last week spent £91.00! just horrified myself adding it up. got approx £75 to spend this week to make it in the upper end of the budget range i set myself, panic setting in. Did get lots of stuff on offers which will last a few weeks, dog food, toiletries etc, but had to get them such good prices. Also got in my ingredients for millionaires shortbread. 2 tins condensed milk £2 in coop, so one for this week and one tucked away for next time.

cupboards and freezer fairly full but fridge empty. got to get a list together today, my month ends on 24/03/08. so got to last 7 days . doing better than i usually would just got to exercise some control!!! easier said than done when i get browsing, but just had a no spend weekend an absolute first for me.

This is Bugs' tortilla recipe from this site, sorry don't know how to post link
    Bugs Tortilla's

6 oz plain flour, 7 tbsp water, 1 tsp salt, 1 tbsp olive oil.

Mix and then knead for 5 minutes until it is soft and springy. Cover with a clean damp cloth to stop it drying out and leave it for half an hour (or more, you can make it the day before you want to eat it if you like and put it in the fridge).

Divide it into 6, roll each piece into a ball, then flatten out and roll into a circle about 6" wide.

Heat a frying pan (with a little oil if you like) and when it's quite hot cook the breads, about a minute each side until lightly coloured. They'll puff up and bubble just like the ones in the shops.

Once cooked you can eat them warm, grill them quickly before you eat them or freeze them for use later. They freeze so well I tend to make double every time so I can have some ready to use in minutes (they're so thin you can put them straight from the frezer into a warm oven or under the grill)

Right well I'm still under budget just despite spending £18 in Lidl yesterday. However that should all last most of April, why is it you run out of cereal etc just before payday LOL

So all I should need to buy between now and payday is milk so fingers crossed I should make it.

Well don eto everyone who has stuck to their budgets and hugs to those that havent, but next month is a fresh start :)
