Another disaster! How on earth did I manage to spend another forty-odd quid:eek:

Mind you, that was a visit to the 'discount' store in the next village; got loo & k rolls, a 99p blanket for pup, a £4+ wodge of approx a kilo of mature cheddar & 300 t bags, as well as other bits.If you spend over £20 the kilo bags of sugar are charged at 39p ea so had 3 of those as well.

What with melon & such in MrT too, I got thru £44:81:o

Re: Millionaire's Shortbread recipe, a few drops of peppermint esscense[sp!] in with the condensed milk produces something along the lines of those mint viscount biscuits.
If I remember, I soak dried fruit in fairly hot black tea for a couple of hours or even over night before using in baking. It plumps the fruit up & makes the cake moist without being wet. You can also cook things like dried apricots in water & allow to cool, for the same effect & means it looks like there's more fruit in stuff! Me muvva always cooks her dried pear, apricots etc before using it on her cereal too.

Kitty - I freeze parmesan.. you can either grate it up or i attack mine with a potato peeler :p

Well hubby is home tonight..been living in a very wet very cold field all week  so i thought i would make a savoury meat pie... then remembered i had 3 pieces in the freezer from the last one i made :j so i have taken those out.. ooohhh i love using up stuff ... wil do him some roasties, broccoli, cauli and peas with it..that should warm him up.

JayneC - I would ask for one on free cycle... its better than paying for 1.. you might have a bit of a wait mind.. i think all the other folks on these threads will probably be on the list for one too :rotfl:

Nykmedia.... i do that with pastry too :p in fact hubbie loves it when i make savoury slices.... and its always great for using up odds n sods isn't it :T the last one was a corned beef and vegetable slice ... hubby loves cornedbeef :D

keep up the good work everyone... the end of March is in sight -just ;)

I think this soup looks lovely too. I have one question though. Creamed tomatoes? Is this just a regular can of toms, or passata, or cream of tom soup?

    Sorry if I'm being thick :o .

    Hiya,

have updated my sig to include deodorant, salt, 3x baked beans and lemon juice- £1.60 in Lidl yesterday.

Gutted about the salt, OH tipped the 200g of sugar into roughly the same amount of salt in my storage jar.

Does anyone know of any recipes which use salt and sugar in equal quantities? I'm stumped, but i'll be damned if I waste food!;)

I'm thinking of adding it to my HM naan breads, with some extra sugar (they're quite sweet) but would really love any other ideas.

Just made 9 portions of sausage tart, so feeling virtuous!

nykmedia- fabulous idea about those pastry pop-tarts, gonna copy you later on!

:TKeep up the great work everyone:T

  • MrsMc- well done on the weight loss & 7 NSD :T :j  i'm lucky if i do 1 NSD.
Back on MSE again! to take control of my finances and not let it control me. :T May grocery challenge £41.96/140
  • Thanks MrsM, thought you'd come to my rescue :T . Yes, I thought it was passata too. Even though it's a UK website I think the recipe has been converted from elsewhere possibly the US.

Anyway, I've not got any passata so I'll get my stick blender to work on a can of regular toms :D

Mrs M. your hubby is a very lucky bloke! I know you are good at using up odds and sods, any chance you could get your thinking cap on about my salt and sugar question? Pretty please? ;)

    Hya folks

Not given up, just not very well these past few days...a few NSDs as a result.

Not added up the last lot of receipts..dosed up with painkillers which is making me a bit dopey (alright more dopey!) and very tired...don't trust myself with numbers at the moment.

Will pop in over the weekend if I feel better

    M
