    hi :hello:
I've just had my second shop of the month delivered and it came to £71.26. I'm really chuffed as I'm now half way through my month and I've spent less than half of my budget. I've got loads of meat in the freezer and the cupboards are well stocked so I shouldn't have to spend too much for the rest of the month.:j
Hope everyone else is doing well too.

I used to be good at making semolina years ago. When I was on a kibbutz one of my jobs was working in the kitchen where I made the breakfasts, and one of the things was a HUGE vat of semolina (they eat strange breakfasts - mainly salad!). Some people made it too sloppy, others made it almost solid, but mine was just the right consistency! Haven't had it for a long time. I think I'll have to make some for tomorrow night now.

We are semolina fiends in this house but had to resort to tapioca last week because I cannot find a shop that sells semolina! It's weird! Even Mr T had none. Mind you, Tesco had no ham stock cubes either, but I could, at least, see where they should have been. Semolina was just completely absent. Have also tried Co-op and Somerfield and there are no other supermarkets nearby. Wonder if Costcutter sells it?

Now I need some advice, please, from anyone who makes ham & mushroom or chicken & mushroom pies. Tomorrow I will be boiling a pack of smoked bacon bits for soup stock and I normally use some of the ham for the soup and some for cheese & ham pasta, but this pack has a lot more in it and I have loads of mushrooms in the freezer. What is the best way of making pie filling when it's ham & mushroom? Do I use a basic white sauce mix then add in the chopped ham & mushrooms? All suggestions & advice appreciated :)
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I'm no expert, really really, but I think what I would do is steal some of the stock to make a sauce: use the stock rather than milk when you start your sauce and then add milk later in the process. Then add the ham and mushrooms. Just a guess, but the stock in the 'white sauce' should make all the difference.
