Technically yes, you would need to change the use on the car insurance. If you ever needed to claim and they investigate and find it is work related they can refuse the claim. If I were you, I'd wait until you've got your first booking. don't know when your insurance is up for renewal but some companies don't charge extra for business use.

For information about self employment you may want to have a look at www.businesslink.gov.uk as that will give some information. You need to keep receipts for any 'business' related expenditure and obviously, keep a track of any income. All of your expenses can be offset against your income but you will need to let the Revenue and Customs people know that you are self employed so that they can send you a self assessment form at the end of the tax year. Also, you'll need to pay national insurance contributions - class 2 and I think it is about £2 something each week. For general information and advice, you could also contact the local enterprise agency (Stafford Enterprise) and they will talk you through what records you need to keep, who you need to register with etc.

Leafleting can be soule (and sole) destroying, I've done it too for our business, but it can generate leads. You may also think about having a booking form that you keep for any enquiries you get (people's names, tel no, party date, how many going etc etc). When you have got lots of bookings, you want to be going to the right place with the right amount of stuff to sell!

    Isn't it exciting?! Good luck...
Thanks, will have a look at the link. The leafletting is hell.. and more the fact that I'm doing it on my own so takes forever.. but as I was saying to Ste even if they chuck it in the bin after a first glance they might tell someone else so fingers crossed..

    Positive things about leafleting:
    1) You get lots of free exercise
    2) You can tell Ashli with every letter box that if she works hard at school she can avoid doing it again
    3) It'll make any job you ever do seem good/sociable
    4) You get out and about in the community
    5) You could read up on local history and turn it into a walking tour for Ashli of the history of the local area....

OK I know it's a miserable thing and feel for you... but I tried...

    c+p'd because I'm lazy.

Have seriously had enough now. My girls are supposed to be starting nursery on the 7th April so I can begin training with the CAB. This date has changed 3 times now because my eldest will be getting government funded sessions.
This morning I get another letter from the nursery saying that the funding NOW doesn't start until the 21st April... and I forgot that it's only for term times so will stop again on the 21st July :wall::wall:

Nothing seems to be going right for me recently and I'm sick of it. As soon as something good happens something bad happens to ruin it. Just had enough now. :(

    Thanks BB

"2) You can tell Ashli with every letter box that if she works hard at school she can avoid doing it again"

I'll use that technique on my 7 year old daughter next time I go out leafleting for my OH. The exercise is good. Last time I went out, I did an estate with 300 houses that was a few miles from home. Parked the car at the end of the estate and got all the way in when the heavens opened. Guess where my coat was!! So, there's always point number 6 which you overlooked - opportunity for a free shower, thus saving money on water bills!!!!

Oh god right now I am so tempted to just say 'screw it all' and sack off the CAB, OU, Ann Summers and everything. :(
