Morning all. A bit fed up today. Haven't been sleeping properly the past few nights, both the girls have colds and are short tempered... which doesn't make for a happy mummy! lol
Not got any plans for today.. maybe do some more leafletting tonight if the weathers ok. After we went to bed the weather was terrible although it's nice and sunny this morning so far.. fingers crossed I guess!
Really annoyed with myself. Because we're just scraping by at the moment on the tax credits and my wages we've been using the credit card :wall:. Bought Ashli's birthday present on it as well as a power cable for the printer (for which I've forgotten to keep the receipt :doh) and as it stands the credit cards at about £290... :wall::doh:
Really need to start getting some money in.
Hope everyone's well.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Keep the applications going in (the bookies?) - you may decide that the Ann s. work is too sporadic / unreliable - and 16 guaranteed hours the same each week may be easier? Don't lose hope - this is just the dull, grinding bit to work through. REmember all those much longer term better things they are starting to lead to.0 -
Oh forgot to mention the other day we've had our new rent and water amounts through... the rent is going up to £307 a month from £296 but the water is confusing me... it says that the DD amount is staying the same but with DD's only until january... which comes in about £50 short of the bill total? Strange. Oh well.. will see what happens... have yet to get the council tax bill through either.. :undecidedTotal 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Still looking for jobs but there seems to be a serious lack of them at the moment.. at least with the Ann summers once I'm registered as self employed we'll get help with the childcare so that'll be covered and I'll just have to work my a** off to get the parties..
Yep something better than nothing. I'm not an expert on self-employment - did a bit of tutoring but if there's a risk you'll earn over the tax threshold use your number-obsession to keep really good records. You can offset tax (ok may only be 20%) on stuff like stationary, meals away from home, overnight accommodation (if you combined a party with visit to somewhere - may be worth it), petrol, even donations to charity etc Might be worth a google?0 -
Well at Argos I get a basic £1435 a year.. will have to check what the tax threshold is but I remember the guy on the self employment line saying about offsetting tax etc so must start keeping my receipts!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

I know people doing this full time who have part of their house on business rates(cheaper than council tax)... but seems to suggest even part of electricity bills can be offset if working at home but I think it's things like computers, a calculator, a printer cable etc which people make sure is a business need

For information about self employment you may want to have a look at www.businesslink.gov.uk as that will give some information. You need to keep receipts for any 'business' related expenditure and obviously, keep a track of any income. All of your expenses can be offset against your income but you will need to let the Revenue and Customs people know that you are self employed so that they can send you a self assessment form at the end of the tax year. Also, you'll need to pay national insurance contributions - class 2 and I think it is about £2 something each week. For general information and advice, you could also contact the local enterprise agency (Stafford Enterprise) and they will talk you through what records you need to keep, who you need to register with etc.
Leafleting can be soule (and sole) destroying, I've done it too for our business, but it can generate leads. You may also think about having a booking form that you keep for any enquiries you get (people's names, tel no, party date, how many going etc etc). When you have got lots of bookings, you want to be going to the right place with the right amount of stuff to sell!
Isn't it exciting?! Good luck...0 -
