Warning - Sainsbury's special offers - check receipts!!

A warning to check your receipts when buying special offers from Sainsbury's. Yesterday, I bought some ham. This was positioned on the end of an aisle - together with cooked turkey, pork and beef etc. ALL of which said on them 'Buy 2 for £3' (normal price is £1.79). Normally I would just buy one as I don't need that much ham and the other pack would probably go off, but as it was a specai ldeal I thought I'd try one of the other products and bought some beef.
After paying I checked my receipt on the way out and guess what - I'd been charged individually for each item. I went to customer services and was told the deal only applies if you buy two ham or two beef - you can't buy one of each. However I think this is very sneaky as they were all positioned together in the same place saying 'Buy 2 for £3' and it wasn't at all clear that it had to be two of exactly the same product. Also, there are other deals where can you can combine similar product - such as apple and orange juice.
I got a refund, but I wonder how many other people didn't check their receipts and ended up paying for something twice that they wouldn't have otherwise bought. A nice little earner for Sainsbury's!

I have had a similar problem in Tesco - mostly caused by shelf-stackers putting things in the wrong place.
Nestle cerals and Robinsons squash were both BOGOF on an end-of-aisle, and I didn't read the small print on the sign to see which particular sorts/flavours, just assumed if they were on the shelf under the sign they must be included, but both had some non-included items stacked there. The woman on customer service was most awkard and snooty about it when I reported it and asked to change to included flavours and get the excess money back! Needless to say I insisted!!!!!!The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

This was worse than that. Each pack had the 'Buy two for £3' printed on them in the same style. The customer services lady claimed it was due to shelf stackers putting things in the wrong place but I don't believe that- it wasn't just one or two packs of beef, but an equal amount of chicken, ham, pork and beef all placed next to each other.
I think this was deliberately intended to mislead.0 -

That is an IT systems !!!!-up, rather than a deliberate attempt to mislead. Could just be restricted to that store.0 -

Could be worth a letter to Sainsburys though

I got 2 different ones & the offer went through ok, think it was chicken & ham I got.
Also, got some children's turkey dinosaurs from freezer section, had 25% extra free (10 instead of 8 if I remember rightly) on priced £1.49 so bought 1 pack for my daughter's tea. Went through til at £1.49 - 75p Special Offer making 74p to pay, not sure why?

I was in Sainsbury's today and actually noticed these meats after reading your post yesterday. It definitely said "Buy ANY 2 for...", even on the stickers! I think the lady you were talking in CS to didn't know what she was doing, how annoying!
At least in Tesco you could've had all your money back...0 -
Here's one thing that'll really annoy you.
Justin King is chief executive. He lives in Harbury, just outside Leamington Spa. I work at the Leamington Spa store, and they always know when he's going to come in (he came in on the night the Harry Potter book was launched - guess what.....the store was immaculate).
If you ever go into a Sainsbury's store that looks immaculate and has loads of staff around, you'll know there's a visit. They don't do it for the customer, just for people at the top of the company.
As I don't work at the stores above I can't comment on those issues.
I've been tempted to write to Justin King before but it'd get me in trouble - if anyone does write to the company, try writing to him at head office. It'd be interesting to see if it gets to him or not.0 -

I wrote to Justin after hearing he reads all letters - complaining about empty salad bar and no diet ginger beer (had to drink gin neat:shhh: . had a letter back quickly saying his office were looking into it, that was last week, will let you know how he responds......A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Also had the same problem with Sainburys, saw on the shelves, coasters down from £4.99 to 25p. Oh thats good I thought. Got to check out yes you guessed it charged me £4.99. Pointed out the shelf price, she got someone to check it, and confirmed as 25p. Now that is a big difference if I had not questioned it as she put through the till.
Can't compain too much, Sainsburys still much better than Tesco, and my Daughter works there, Saturdays only but don't want make too many waves.
